Anybody have tips or a video to share that would help me in pick grinding? Mine stinks. I can't get that sick sound like everybody else. It must be the wrong technique...

I searched youtube, but I kept getting trick bike grinding. dry.gif

Thanks guys! smile.gif

I guess you are talking about pick scrapes or pick scraping?

Just use the side of your pick, make it connect the top strings (the thick ones), get a good angle and grind it with force down the strings starting above the bridge pickup... Make sure you have a lot of gain, presence, mids and treble dialed in on your amp

I found out that it depends on the amp and the pickups on how well and great the pick scrape comes out, for example on my Marshall JVM the pick scrapes did not sound as aggressive and loud as they do on the Peavey 6505.

That vid is quite helpful smile.gif

This technique is most effective for the electric guitar with high gain and distortion! Thinner picks tend to have the better results. Also picks made of more durable materials. It destroys your picks when practicing, need of repair 101 with the carpet!

I use my acrylic V-Pick. It is 2.75mm. It seems to be working with the grinds. It sounds better because I don't just grind one string, but multiple. That was part of my problem. It's still not what I'm looking for, but perhaps with practice I'll get it just right. The pick grinds like in the video is what I'm after! smile.gif

Yes the pick grinds in the video are awesome smile.gif
But getting those is just a matter of practice and experimentation. Try different things, and see what works for you.
As the guy in the video said, there are multiple ways to do it, so find the style that suits you!

You have to practice it. Try various speeds at different angles, and you will get different sounds. Some work well for some purposes, some for other. But it's definitely a matter of practice (or constant playing them).
