That vid is quite helpful
This technique is most effective for the electric guitar with high gain and distortion! Thinner picks tend to have the better results. Also picks made of more durable materials. You have to practice it. Try various speeds at different angles, and you will get different sounds. Some work well for some purposes, some for other. But it's definitely a matter of practice (or constant playing them).
