Did you ever think about what will be the mainstream music in say 100 years, taking in consideration what the music WAS and what IS now. Can you post some thoughts?

Well I see rock dying in about 50 years, and then being almost "rediscovered" if you know what I mean? And then it's famous again. smile.gif But yeah, it's hard to say.

I believe that rock music will then be reffered in a similar way that we are looking at classical or jazz music today. It will be divided into era's like rockabilly, rock&roll, classic, hardrock, old school heavy rock, 80ties, 90ties grunge, metal, etc (not in that order...) but I can hardly imagine some new music coming up. It will be some new good music for sure, but what? any ideas?

Well do you guys think the old pattern will continue, like I mean, Some of us who are something like 15-20 old now will in 20-30 years be fathers an mothers who hear some of their childrens fav music and say something like "When I was young we listened to Metal. And it was top notch! todays artists are such rebels and they don't know nothing about music!"?

Math Rock wink.gif

I have no idea what direction music will head in the next 100 years, but I hope something changes in the Pop (genre) soon. I fear that the over produced albums will lead to the decline of future generations bothering to learn how to properly play there instruments.

It would be cool if a new revolutionary instrument was invented like Stevie said smile.gif

But in general, I don't think that there's going to be a lot of "legends to be" bands like Zeppelin or Black Sabbath in the future that pretty much invented new kind of music. There's so much plagiarism in music these days that I just don't see that there is going to be a new and exciting genre of music. Just look at metalcore and what it is today, pretty much every band sounds the same in that genre.

I really hope that new innovators will come though and introduce new elements to existing genres smile.gif

Well, seems to me that we all agree that rock era has finally coming to and end. But this doesn't mean the guitar as an instrument will become obsolete. I think guitar has something more to offer, what we will see.

it's a really difficult question... I think technology will be very important, but with the same instruments or maybe with an electric versions of classical instruments, for instance the electric violin that every day is more usual.

and I think that syntethizers and DJ's in convination with electric instruments is the future... maybe I'm wrong... so time will say it biggrin.gif

I can start of by saying fact and then you can add some more facts that you think will be available and when we have enough facts we can then speculate wink.gif

- I think it is very possible that in 20 years we would be able to pack all today's gear sound in one small box, thus making this sound available everywhere.

I think something revolutionary will happen , something that our brain now can not imagine now and in a lot of years to come...Who knows how we humans will evolve to and discover along the way.. wink.gif

I would not like to hear "humanless" music in the future.. (One that is not played by human rather by computer) sad.gif

Hmmmm...I don't think an amazing new instrument will be invented in the next 100 years or so, all the intstruments we have nowadays were invented thousands of years ago. Except the ELECTRIC guitar, but I suppose that isn't really a new instrument.

Anywayyy...I'll be long gone by then so it doesn't really bother me.

I would maybe say that, but how do you rebel against rebellion? I think that when blues and jazz music hit the scene, music kind of changed and we're perhaps nearing the twilight of that era. As Ivan's signature says, blues is the roots, everything else is the fruits. So either we're going to keep picking those fruits forever or something truly revolutionary is going to come around.

When that happens, I do think those of us living today probably will have a hard time understanding it because for it to be so revolutionary, it will have to be very different to what we're used to.
