GMC Forum _ Techniques (Muris) _ Stuck!

Posted by: Massimo Apr 1 2010, 12:04 PM

Hi Muris,

I need a bit of advice for a problem i have with my alternate picking. I pick from my wrist trying to keep it relaxed and it seems to work pretty well until i reach my "top speed" which is about 16th notes at 100 bmp. I'm really stuck at that speed and i'm not able to make any progress.
When I pick at that speed, my forearm seems to have the will to "help" my wrist in some way and i start picking using it rather than my wrist.
Any advise, please?

Thank you in advance

Massimo

Hi Massimo.

The thing with picking from the wrist is that you cannot separate it totally from your forearm,
no matter how focused you are on using your wrist only there is nothing you can do
to exclude your forearm from working, that's the anatomy.
So there's no reason to be "afraid" of using your forearm a little, specially when reaching your limits,
that's fully normal.
As you practice more and more you'll reach higher limit and you'll become more and more relaxed
which also means less and less use of your forearm.

So practice as you have been practice and try not to use forearm ONLY,
everything else will come in place in time. smile.gif
