You have at the rear end output, which you connect to your sound card, it is called analog outs 1, it works fine for me, depends what kind of speakers do you have. It is best to go directly to amp instead speakers.
Also, check if "ux1" is selected as your primary device at control panel. Maybe it even isn't necessary, but check.

First of all you need to connect your speakers to the UX2. You can connect them to the headphones output (easiest option I use) or in the back where is says analog output 1 and 2. You need to undestand that UX2 is an external sound card. So if your speakers are connected to your regular integrated sound card you won't be able to hear sound from UX1. To hear all the sounds from Windows through UX2 you need to go to control panel>sound and set the ux1 as the primary sound device for playback on your computer. Just make sure you connect your speakers to the unit (you may need an adapter for this depending on the speakers connection plug)...

p.s let me know if you need any more help with the unit as I use ux2 for my home recording needs.

You just plug them in the headphones output on the UX1. Use this adapter (which you can get in any local store/mall if you already don't have one):

To record you can use Riff works, but you can also use an recording software like (Cubase, Reaper).

I recommend trying out the Reaper which is free to try and use (without many limitations)...

The line-6 devices often come with abelton live lite 7 or something in addition to that riffworks application. Abelton might be a little easier to use than riffworks. I didn't really care for either one, but as Bole just said, there's always reaper.

Take the adapter off the headphones , plug the speakers plug in it and then plug the adapter in the headphones input on the ux1. Tell me if it works...

Speakers need to be connected to the headphones jack on the UX1 in order to have sounds from UX1 coming through the speakers.

You need to ask the instructor to provide you with the backing track in mp3 format. Then you download the track and import it into reaper. Next you need to make a new track on which you will record your guitar. Don't forget to set the ux1 as primary sound interface in the Reaper settings.

how do i convert my reaper file to mp3?

From within Reaper...

First you need to download and install the LAME mp3 encoder in to the Reaper folder. Once that is set up you then either render or save the live output wave file as the LAME mp3.

You can get LAME here - note 32 bit Reaper needs the 32 bit LAME and 64 bit the 64.

From outside Reaper...

you need a format converter that can change files between wave and mp3 - something like Foobar 2000 (you will still need a LAME encoder). Note that you don't convert the project file but the audio wave file.
