GMC Forum _ Introduce Yourself ! _ Hey Everybody At Gmc

Posted by: staticstef Oct 9 2008, 04:48 PM

Hey everyone my name is Stefano but you can call me Stef smile.gif

Been playin guitar for nearly 2 years now, i was receiving guitar tuition for about 1 year but stopped because i wanted to do things my way and it was expensive and i didnt seem to be progressing much with him. I came across this site basically because i heard of Kristopher Dahl (The nocturnal Vision song was what started all this off lol - its awsome) on ultimate-guitar.com. Gota say this website is much better than paying £100 a month for guitar lessons lol.

Ok so abit about myself. Im 19 turning 20 soon, i would class my self as an intermediate guitar player but close to beginner when it comes to theory. I basically suck when it come to contruting music myself but when it come to playin peoples music i can do it fairly well (except for the real fast stuff lol)

I love metal, heavy metal, classic rock (black sabbath, iron maiden, led zeppelin etc) and instrumental stuff like satriani. And this is the kind of music i would like to play.

So what i really want to achieve is to be able to shred and do sweeps but also learn alot of theory coz im only limited to the pentatonic scale which is ok but i wana be really gud lol.

Strengths
Accurate when it comes to both finger picking and using a pick (unless under pressure lol)
Very gud at alternate picking but speed is not what id like it to be
Gud vibrato and string bending technique
Gud hammer ons

Weaknesses
oof where to start lol ok....
Very limited theory knowledge
pull offs suck (cant get the technique spot on)
Sweeps are fairly gud but not fast
cant shred to save my life and dont no where to start lol
Suck at contructing my own songs

Ok so theres a little about myself hope thats enough, i hope to progress well with this website and would quite happily take any suggestions on how to improve my weaknesses on board.

Anyways hope to hear from some of you because id like to get to know a few peopl on this site since im new and dont no anyone sad.gif lol

Thanks

Hi Stefano and welcome to GMC

I have read your post and this is what I can suggest about your week points

Very limited theory knowledge

Try my lesson about modes and intervals. This might be a good point to start with some theory

Sweeps are fairly gud but not fast

This is my first one published by GMC, it's about sweep picking. Make sure you get the Guitar Pro file you have all picking signs in there

I hope this will help a little

Sure, anytime. When you feel comfortable do some recordings and post it. We can always give you useful comments.

Welcome to GMC Stef

It's a great place to be , and you will learn a lot.

I have only been playing about 3 weeks, but have been accepted on the MTP and I can actually make the guitar make notes now, not noise laugh.gif

enjoy!!!!

Hey to everyone else that has replied since my last login smile.gif

Im not really good at using forums all be totally honest laugh.gif so im not sure how you quote but thanks for ur replies smile.gif

Hey completenewbie thats great it took me ages to be able to pick notes and strum a chord and then came the harder part - changing from one chord to another tongue.gif , and then power chords and barre chords i struggled with alot for a long time lol, ur fingers will get used to moving and will become stronger just keep at it, we've all been there but only the determined ones will keep trying wink.gif one of my friends bought a £200 guitar to learn on and then decided it was too hard and quit rolleyes.gif

Thanks Emir Hot, i wouldnt mind doing some recordings but like i sed im really useless at composing my own music all i can do is play others (due to my lack of theory), I dont know where to start (scales, learning the notes on fretboard, intervals etc etc), What sort of things do members on GMC normally record for you to analyse?

Thanks again people cool.gif

You don't need to compose. Play some GMC lesson, that will be enough to see you weak points.

First learn intervals, then chords, and then scales. You can do the other way around if you like. After you try to play some simple songs. When you feel you are progressing, try to enter some advanced techniques world. There are many picking exercises on the site.
