Hi Dieterle I am glad you have decided to join my mentoring program!
I have a few questions before we will start!
-What are your goals?
-What is your weakness?
-What is your strongest point?
-Your favorite guitar players?
I really appreciate you joining and I am looking forward to work with you!

Posted by: Dieterle Apr 3 2012, 10:12 AM

Hi Alex , great that you try to help me rolleyes.gif .

Ok now the answers to your questions ,

goal - to get more into feel my guitars and finally play what is inside me .

weakness - many wink.gif rhythm - mixing chords with melody , theory, playing with baking tracks or people (didn't do that before)

strongest point - i am serious to go my way - just playing around and experimenting with some pentatonic- enough time between my duty`s.

favorite guitar players - Hendrix Carlos Santana Malmwsteen David Gilmoure Mike Oldfield

there is a lot more of guitars i like ...

Ok
Dieter

Hi! We like same guitar players!!!
So I have created a few licks for you in style of Carlos Santana some are simple and some are a little complicated!
When you are practicing make sure you do it at a slow tempo and using a metronome!!!

Perfect! In a few days I will post a chord progression in style of Santana so you can practice those licks! Also we will start analyzing chords and notes he is using!
Just let me know when you will get comfortable with the licks I've posted!

Hi Alex ,
i have real fun with your exercise licks for me and i am getting into it - right now working with speed 80 - next view will be 100 rolleyes.gif a bit later the 120 huh.gif

at this time , i still sometimes , have to think in between, what gets me out of rhythm

actually i like to play them all together - lots of fun and a good feeling to me .

Have a good day !

Great! I would suggest to take your time and really get them down at a slow speed! This way you have a full control over it!
I am glad to hear that you like it! smile.gif There is more to come!

Posted by: Dieterle Apr 7 2012, 04:26 PM

Lick 2 Santana lesson

Posted by: Alex Feather Apr 7 2012, 05:31 PM

You did a very good job with videos! Looks good and you got it to work!
About licks: You did good learning them but I would suggest to spend more time practicing at a slow tempo even slower than 80 BPM
I want you to take control over your hands and slower you practicing better results you will get!

Posted by: Dieterle Apr 7 2012, 05:44 PM

Hi Alex !

Yes i will slow down !

No that i know how it works with recording i can bring myself back to guitar studies tongue.gif

by the way you are a good psychologist too ! blink.gif

Hi Alex ,

here all the licks together - i tried to play them in 80 i posted that you can see all of them together. smile.gif

I still exercise each of them in slower speed to recognize whats inside and i know it takes time..... mellow.gif

Anyway - have a nice day and greetings to your dog from mine wink.gif

Posted by: Alex Feather Apr 9 2012, 04:42 PM

Hi! Nice take! I can see the big difference between licks you were practicing and licks you started learning not so long ago!

Licks 2,5,6 still need work! Try to practice them more and maybe break them on to short phrases?
The rest was much better and I can see your progress in only a couple of days! Very nice!

Posted by: Dieterle Apr 11 2012, 03:48 PM

High Alex !

Could you do me a favor
and give me 2 or 3 chords to play with my licks !?
I still keep exercising them slow and fast but in between i like to play around and would be interesting with the right chords too.

Something Santana like i can built on that rolleyes.gif

Sounds very good! Getting better and better every day!
I wanted to give you another exercise that will help you develop picking and timing at the same time!
You have to practice it at a very slow tempo! Slower is better ALWAYS USE METRONOME!

Santana style lick

Sounds good! You have some timing issues still, but it's getting better!
I would like you to concentrate on the latest assignment that I gave you! It will help you develop your timing very fast! You can use it as a warm up exercise! Just do it every day before you start playing and you will see a huge progress in a few weeks!

Posted by: Dieterle Apr 19 2012, 09:33 AM

Hi Alex , nice to heare from you.

You are right - like always wink.gif !

Thats what i am doing everyday now - the timing lesson (rhythm) is a real good exercise for me and i use it for warming up already .
After i exercise with Santana licks slow and after playing around for fun with it .
A good exercise too is your Blues lesson . Here i mean i get easier into feeling of this timing and rhythm and i somehow just like it smile.gif .
By the end i play around for fun and concentrating to get more feeling into my fingers - what means playing with less finger pressure ( i hope its the right word) - its a new experience for me .

Thank you for your help and keep on going !

Hello Alex,

its time for a nother question from my side huh.gif .

I am keep on practicing hand workout for warming up and the same with santana licks - first slowly and then faster and a bit for fun .

Your blues lesson is great too for get into feeling the patterns and rhythm

Van Halen lesson by now i like most because its sounds a bit heavy and i like that smile.gif .

its the first one i try with backing track what is a bit strange right now but i am getting closer to it rolleyes.gif

and i think it will be my first official record in the forum - but not yet dry.gif .

Ok now my main answer i am not at all into theory and i really like to get into it .

What i know is some pentatonic minor and major nothing about chords and how to get them together

Sure into your lessons already are signs of that biggrin.gif -- i just don't know how and where to start and then go step by step.

Everything is in english and no problem but it takes bit time to understand the new words and descriptions.

Anyway i would like to make some own songs with rhythm and soloing changes there are some old melodies i like and just couldn't get yet into some rhythm chords and baselines..

Ok now , i wrote a lot but i think you know what i mean cool.gif

By the way i have got enough time and there is no hurry just question now and information !

I am glad to know you and thank you !

Have GOOD VIBRATIONS around you !

Dieter

Thank you very much for great words!!! I appreciate it a lot! I am glad that you like my lessons and will be honored if you will record one of my lessons!!!
I will be really happy to help you with theory and song writing!
So let's start with harmonizing a major scale!
You have to remember this pattern:

Major 7 - Minor 7- Minor 7 - Major 7 - Dominant 7 - Minor 7 - Half diminished
Using this formula you can harmonize any major scale and use those chords to write a song!
Those chords will be called diatonic because they are in the same key!

Here is an example:

C major scale harmonizing

C major 7 - D minor 7 - E minor 7 - F major 7 - G7 - A minor 7 - B half diminished

What I want you to do is to harmonize G major and D major scales using the same technique!
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Alex,

here G major and A major harmonization hope i think the right way !

Diminished as i understand means a lower tone !? And why you write 7 behind all notes ?

G major 7 - A minor 7 - B minor 7 - C major 7 - D7 - E minor 7 - F half diminished ( diminished means lower note and not F#?)

D major 7 - E minor 7 - F minor 7 - G major 7 - A7 - B minor 7 - C half diminished ( lower note not C#?)

Hello i hope you could sleep and relax a while - great to be first time into your chat lesson.

Van Halen lesson i do exercise of course more and into parts a good way with guitar pro this wasn't my last record tongue.gif

i had to try it and the last days and weeks i got to get into all this software stuff - its ok now not good hehe.

I use Garageband with zoom g3 or garagebandamps or guitar rig 5 the free version .

Yesterday i find out how to make them run as standalone monitoring

My mistake before zoomg3 amps over garageband and one amp from garageband whats to much noisy .

Anyway will get into it.

Theory a nother universe huh.gif

from your chat lesson is one thing i recognized took a while i am really without knowledge

first you write a chord then the notes what are inside that chord and then the pentatonic lines scales for using as melodies and what ever !?

This i might seeing with Am7 example
rolleyes.gif

Ok have a great tour and Greetings to Slowenia

Can you please write what you understood using A mi7
The notes are A-C-E-G
This way it will be easier for me to help you out!

Sorry Alex ,

A mi7 ( minor) ok the notes for this chord A-C-E-G i understand what makes me thinking 7! what does the 7 (A mi7) exactly mean

the next step Pentatonic and scale i think i understand can use the notes within for melody

As i think i could play this chords on different positions on guitar fred .

Ok I got it! You have a lack in circle of fifths and numbers! Let's fix it smile.gif

Here is the circle of fifths!

This is how you will add sharps and flats to your scales! It call circle of fifths because it goes up in fifths!
We are adding sharps (#) C - G - D - A - E - B - F#
Going down forth adding flats:F - Bb - Eb - Ab - Db - Gb

Here are all the sharps:
F# - C# - G# - D# -A#

Here are all the flats:
Bb - Eb - Ab - Db - Gb - Cb

So if for example we have a D major scale we will have 2 sharps F# and C# Every time a new scale comes up we will be adding one sharp or flat!

Now let me explain the numbers! It's very simple

Each note of the scale will have a number it will make it easier to memorize all the scales/chords and will be able to transpose it to any key!
As an example I will use C major scale

C - I
D - II
E - III
F - IV
G - V
A - VI
B - VII

Let me know if you need any help!

wow is that a MANDALA huh.gif haha ?

Circle of fifth i can imagine.

C major scale and numbers ok .

Example G major scale

G-1 A-2 B-3 C-4 D-5 E-6 F-7

Thank you Alex !

G major scale will have F# tho!
Here is how you build a major scale
Whole-Whole-Half-Whole-Whole-Half
Those are steps from the root!
Let's look at G major scale:
G-A Whole step
A-B Whole Step
B-C Half Step
C - D Whole step
D - E Whole Step
E - F# Half Step
I want you to use this technique and build a B Major scale
Let me know if you have any questions!

B

C#

D#

E

F#

Hello Alex,

i am be thinking a bit about theory stuff and recognized that i am knowing here and there some parts but nothing in the Line.

I decide by my self it is really the time to get completely in to theory -- from point 0 !

I know i could start with theory stuff by my self in german language - what is a bit easier ,

BUT !!! i wanna proceed with my english TOO !

GMC site is in english and i will stay here for the rest of this life cool.gif ....

PLEASE help me to get into it from the totally beginning !

I am not in a hurry and i know you have a lot other stuff to do .

I will be more than happy to help you out! We will take it step by step very easy and slowly!! I will make it easy for you! smile.gif

Posted by: Alex Feather May 7 2012, 05:45 PM

So let's take it slow!
For now I want you to build four scales:
F major, G major and D major and Bb major
Please write the notes using method I told you!
Let me know if you have any questions!

Posted by: Dieterle May 8 2012, 08:27 AM

Hello Alex ,

ok i give another try - first

F major : F G A Bb C D E

G major : G A B C D E F# ( must have a # thats why not F)

D major : D E F# G A B C# ( next # C before new scale
starts )

Bb major : Bb C D Eb F G A

I think i found some logic for myself - using the circle of fifth in german Quintenzirkel and Quantenzirkel
but got to work on it .

Check it out!
Flats are added in this order
Bb-Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Cb
So for example in F we will have only one Bb
In Bb it will be 2 Bb and Eb
Can you write Eb scale?

Awesome! Good job! Now I am gonna show you how to harmonize the scale!
All you need to do is to build chords using thirds!
For example:
C - E - G - B
You got a C major7 chord! Etc.
Here is the system!
Maj7 - Mi7 - Mi7 - Maj7 - Dominant7 - Mi7 - Half Diminished
I would like you to finish harmonizing C major scale and also do G major and F major using the system I showed you!

Hello Alex ,

playing and theory if it is not to much for you , or then playing and next time theory and though on !?

Right now i keep on working on your Van Halen Style lesson and i am myself quiet sure this week to make a good record , i am more into rhythm now - and i like it now to play it for fun too.

Too i exercise your chord picking exercise - its even more difficult to me then van halen lesson.

I am not much into playing with chords -- didn't exercise this before really .

Its a very good training for me !

Today i couldn't be in chat because of family celebration ( in germany mothers day) hope you all had much fun and success.

Have a good time !

So to practice this exercise you need to use a metronome and do it at a very very slow tempo when you have a full control over your hands! Break this exercise in to pieces and play one by one! Don't learn the whole thing right away just one piece at a time!
You are picking only the first note and the rest playing legato!
Let me know if you have any questions or need help! If you feel any pain stop immediately and let me know!

Hello Alex ,

G major scale lesson is in ionian mode thats what i right now see kind of standard mode.
I like the melody and its my warmup now .

It is a good exercise for my left hand and i try to push the strings more with feeling and fewer power .

My fingers and hand hurting a bit - but its because i exercise a lot and in between i do some finger stretching exercise or just go for van halen it is not that hart for my fingers.

Is there any active relaxing or stretching exercise tip for my left hand !?

The legato exercise i like a lot too ! Needs more exercise because some tone are to weak - must find the balanced pushing with my fingers.

(Sorry my english - but i think in german and the direct translation word by word is not always the right words in english)

Ok, thank you a lot for your HELP and Energy !

Have a good DAY !

Hello Alex ,

i am thinking about studying your Sweep Picking lesson when you agree with that . It is real difficult
to me but i like that feeling of music. I know too that this lesson will take more time even than the van halen one.
dry.gif

Van Halen is still my actually main lesson until i MADE it but beside that i would like to start with a new one too ! tongue.gif

Back to Sweep Picking,

could we try to make a study out of that too - theory understanding how it is build ?

Theory is a bit hard but i should do it - ohmy.gif

and by the way for learning playing guitar and have fun with it and make a bit noise for my neighbors i think about starting the

Rock and Roll Riffs lesson from Steffan - the chords i know and its a good rhythm lesson too , what do you think ? tongue.gif

Though one hard lesson for study and one easier for fun and maybe faster success and kind of Success experience. rolleyes.gif

Lots of GOOD ENERGY to you and the Once around you !

Ok Let's start with understanding the theory behind sweep lesson!
It's G major scale
We have:
G - A - B - C - D - E - F#
If we will harmonize it we will get those chords:
G major7 - A mi7 - B mi7 - C maj7 - D7 - Emi7 - F#half diminished
That means you can play any of those arpeggios over the chord progression in the key of G major!
I would like you to harmonize
D major and Bb Major scale using technique I showed you!
Let me know if you have any questions!

Here is a very good exercise! I have two tracks with my guitar and click only!
The second track has two bars with the click and two without! The trick is to keep the tempo even when click is gone!
This exercise will require a lot of concentration and some work! But it will improve your timing very fast!!!
Tempo is 80BPM
The chord is still E7#9

Hello Alex,

here my morning exercise in 60 Bpm and 80 Bpm .

60 Bpm i fell more uncomfortable than 80 and of course the part with 12 beats - 4 times 3- i need my head and then i loose the beat huh.gif
but i recognize that i have to find the rhythm inside myself without thinking about it and this exercise is a key - thank you !
Dieter

Posted by: Alex Feather Jun 12 2012, 05:58 PM

Good take! A few things that you need to work on!
60BPM
1) part 2 should be triplets you are playing them straight instead? Try to play along with the Guitar Pro file!
2) ever time triplets are happening you are off for some reason!
3) your are rushing a little bit through the whole take!

80BPM
Was much much better! I liked it a lot!
1) part 3 you are rushing but than got back into the groove!
So my suggestion would be to play it at 80 BPM and get very comfortable with this exercises! You are almost there and it will sound great very soon!
After you master it at 80 BPM you can lower the tempo!
The tricky thing about this exercise is slower you do it harder it is to keep up!
Let me know if you have any questions or need help!

It is much much better! just watch out for the verse part! You are slowing down there and rushing!

is there a way with garageband or quicktime to let it play slower !? ohmy.gif

This take is much better! Still some timing issues but it's getting better every time!
I actually almost done with a new assignment for you and will post it very soon! It's based on Van Halen style lesson and has all the tricky moments at a slow tempo and in the loop! smile.gif

Posted by: Alex Feather Jun 18 2012, 09:14 PM

So I have prepared some assignments that will help you with Van Halen lesson!
I would like you to play only first part along with the track I have created!
We will start with the first riff I have it at 80 BPM and it's a loop, I would like you to start practicing along with me so you will get the timing and the feel right!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/van-halen-part-1-loop-80bpm
Here is the tab for the second part:

|----------------------------|
|----------------------------|
|----------------------------|
|--2-------------------------|
|-----1L-1--0L-0-------------|
|-----------------0--3L-3----|

I have also created a slower version
So you can practice the whole tune
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/van-halen-backing-80bpm
When you are ready please make a recording of the first riff only 80BPM tempo and we will continue to the next part!
Let me know if you have any questions or need help!

i think i found one mistake - i did not understand the tab right .

i must play 3L--3---0L-- 0 / 4 hits i did 2
--------- 3L--3---0L--0

i thought the L stands for let the tone stay / sound longer

in a few days i make a record hope i think right and hear it out from your clip

-----------------------3L---|--3-----0L-0----------------|
-----------------------3L---|--3-----0L-0--2-------------|
----------------------------|--------------2-------------|

It is so much better!!!! You are so close!
0:43 there is a timing issue there on every part try to work on it a little bit more
1:00 same thing and the same part!
1:03 should be harmonics (if you want I can explain how to get them to sound right)

And that's it! Only 2 parts to fix and you good to go!!!! smile.gif

What chords you have played?

HAHAHAHA ohmy.gif Alex ,

thats a good question !

I just been playing a bit around started with some backing rhythm and than i played to it how it comes out .

Before i have been walking a bit in the nature with my dog .

I think the chords from your chord picking etude and bit more what ever it was . I been exercising your lesson and than just wanted to play around.

the melody is closed and around Am Pentatonic thats what i am used without thinking .

Hello Alex !

I started now to transcribe what i been playing - it is real difficult tongue.gif

First i go on with the melody could be a bit easyer than the chords to hear out !? will see .

After i try the chords in a secound line // i use GP 6 , it is a bit strange because i never used it for writing - only for listening others work wink.gif

the notes should be ok only to make it sound more like the original rec is difficult - have to find out how to use GP 6 for timing rhythm slights and all that - must test all the GP symbols and notes how they work.

OK , i soon will let you know my first little part of the whole thing ..

Thank you for your energy and inspiration !

i am still on earth biggrin.gif and every thing is OK !

Right now we have holiday time and soon we are going to france for a few weeks .

I am not every day on internet and i spend not so much time with learning guitar playing.

I will try to put a first transcription part in my thread here before i leave to france ,

it is a bit difficult because i recorded both guitars together without keeping the single records mad.gif

but i did learn something about it wink.gif

Dieter

Posted by: Dieterle Aug 9 2012, 08:39 AM

Ok here a short part on GP .

Only the notes cause i do not manage the GP software well right now - to make it sound with pull-ups, bending and all that.

It is difficult to manage this two guitars so i concentrate close to the melody .

Your new happy song is a great feeling - very interesting technic`s especially tabbing i am not into that.

Too i like parts of metal guitar - thats why i try to exercise helloween lesson too.

I think my way is in between strong warm universal and open feeling compared with powerful elements .

What do you think about using the new lesson from you for getting back into study`s !?

Playing the song right and understanding the theory behind it ?

I am glad to have you back!!!
Glad you like my happy song! smile.gif
I think it is a very good idea to get back into routine! Start by learning the first verse! It is very simple and fun to play!
And I will help you out!

Hello Alex !

Sorry that it took so much time until i write now !

I have been very busy the last weeks and felt sometimes just tired cool.gif .

One mistake i did for sure here in GMC that i started with more then one Rec Lesson at a time .

From now on i do only one by one and the real first one before i subscribed at GMC was Helloween and this is the one i try to master at next.

Be part on collabs here and there is fun and experience too playing around for fun of course although .

Theory very important even when it is sometimes difficult for me and in german we say dry .

Do you remember my own little records genetic root and the rising of the root

here the playlist

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL59A930936F8A0675&feature=plcp

i would like to get more into that theory , as you know i been just playing around in a mood and recordet this without knowing what notes chords or what ever laugh.gif

I wanna in the future make more records belonging to the two ones i already have done,

should be one day a memory for my family .

Have a GOOD TIME !

I am looking for a new backing track made by myself but right now just kind of empty space huh.gif .

I am thinking about 4 minutes backing with one guitar and using the bass line`s.

Kind of coming out of the dark ( not in a evil way ) and in one timing through the whole time. -main atmosphere -

Second guitar should talk - melody all over the fret board rolleyes.gif -

It should sound not real european style more the eastern style .

Wich pentatonic - could you imagine for this kind of feeling i am looking for.

What chords maybe in between ?

I got some new pics i made and while looking at them and playing around with my Guitar i will find a way to my 3. part of record.

Hopefully wink.gif

Have a Good Weekend !

Hi Let's start by creating the track we will start with a form first
What you want it to be?
And also how fast you want the song to be?
Let me know!

Dieter

By the form I meant verse chorus etc.
Just create a melody frist and we can take it from there! smile.gif
Make sure you are using a metronome to make it easier to work with!

Hello Alex i hope you are fine !

Sorry that i didn`t answer faster.

I had to take a lot of time for my job and some private stuff but it looks like i can get some more silence again.

I did try to find some new melody for a noter go on my own little project but i am still coming back to the old scale i once started

A Am closed to blues pentatonic but this is not the right tune to say something anymore .

I need more dramatic background with light moments biggrin.gif ohmy.gif

Hope i get it today on your video chat lesson , will see.

Hello Alex here a first idea of what i try to make ,

its a bit of melody and some rhythm idea in between

the real record start i will record melody and rhythm separate .

So the main problem is for me to get some chording background first in this mute i try you to show

the melody i will go for after that , i find it easier when there is a backing with the atmosphere i like , the rest comes from alone .

I have no idea with chords and no real experience with that .

Of course I can Black Sabbath is one of my favorite band of all times!!!!
What would you like to know about the style?
Also are you interested in rhythm or solos?
Let me know!

Posted by: Dieterle Nov 25 2012, 12:56 PM

Hey Alex , GREAT !

The first step i would like to get into Rhythm because thats what i think is my greatest problem.

From that point on i could manage a main background feeling and then get more into soloing ,

so rhythm - atmosphere and solo - talking about a theme .

What i mean get inspired from the mystical atmosphere Black Sabbath and there feeling to create and get more into my own stuff.

Hello Alex !

Today i look that i get to your warm up v chat lesson cool.gif thats a cool idea !

I am working on my Black Sabbath lesson and right now i got it in mind without looking at the tabs tongue.gif

The next days i go into a slower rhythm and will make a record from the whole thing and we will see rolleyes.gif

OK Alex i have got a noter questions !

I am using iMac and MacOsX guitarinput through my Zoom G3 (and only that simulations inside ZoomG3 ) over Garageband

without any simulations from Garageband .

It works got for me and on Vchat no problems with video session.

What i want to buy next is a micro and a headphone

Micro over Zoom G3 that i can talk on Vchat when there is a need (Systemsettings Micro in - on Mac - is Zoom G3 )

Should be a good midrange Micro what would you recommend ?

Headphone i just would use when i should be a bit more silence when others are sleeping smile.gif

mostly for my guitar playing.

Wich headphone would you recommend ?

I am interested in Quality but not overpriced because its just for private use on GMC.

Hope its not to much wanted

wink.gif

You got all the chords right but I think the issue is in the right hand
Not all the chords sounding clear and you have timing issue
If you could send me your right hand close up (angle doesn't matter)
I will be able to give you exact directions on how to improve it and it will make the process much easier for you!
Let me know if you can do it if not I will find another way to show you the movements
