 I think that area is going to be a revelation, no more fannying about searching for stuff. I've put a link to it in my signature. I've put the backing track at the top so that I can play it on a loop, scroll down to each example, work on it then on to the next. Got the entire code copied to a Word file just in case. I don't know why I didn't think of it before. We're off HERE tomorrow afternoon until Sunday evening then BOOM, I'm back on it big style. I feel like a fire has been relit in my soul, simple things create big effects sometimes eh? Hi Phil! Yeah! This has been a great idea and I think that I'll offer it to other students in the future. Having everything in the same place can make things a lot easier and more inspiring.

Yeah I really think it's a good idea even if I do say so myself
 I'll look for something else to replace the travel guitar but the size of that one, when folded, was perfect for me. Under the floor of the boot of my car is a rectangular storage space, hidden by the floor. To access it you lift the floor at the back and it clips up to allow you to get to it easily. That guitar fitted in there perfectly with room for some other stuff. Most thieves would lift the boot lid and think it was empty Cheers buddy UPDATE: I think it would be good to have the revision folders set as a sticky. I have a link in my signature to mine but on mobile devices signatures don't show. For a student that doesn't visit the site very much it will be a help as their revision folder will drop down the page

Hello Gab,
I love my revision folder, it helps me keep focused. For the next few days, I'm going to focus on the 6th string root stuff, ie, 7 chord, arpeggio and triads, until they are in my head and I don't have to think too much about them. Then I'll do the same with the 5th string root stuff. Is that okay with you? I have realised that I tend to forget some of the first things you show me as you introduce more things because they get buried back in the thread, this folder really really prevents that. I'm not going to rush, it will come to me as and when it happens. On a side note, tonight I managed to play the Gab version of A7 (with pinky) without too much struggle After doing all of the above, I'll then practise smoothly changing between the chords. Gab, if you don't see me around it's not because I'm not practising, it's because I'm internalising things and have nothing to report but I will update as often as possible.
Notes from tonight's practise: Playing the 7 chord with root on 6th string sounds sweet if alternating using the pinky and not using the pinky. I'm still not consistent with the pinky but it's getting there. I'm trying to get used to playing the 6th string root arpeggio without the visual cues like the fretboard dots. Tonight I discovered that if I play with the root on a non-dotted fret, eg 6th fret, my fingers get confused. I need to overcome this so I'm playing the arpeggio shape in different areas of the neck because the other thing is the spacing of the frets that can confuse the fingers. Internalise!!!! I've really taken on board the quote below, I think it will take a long time but once it's in there it's in there for good and it doesn't have to be thought about when improvising etc.  Speak soon buddy. Update to the above post:
You know when you hear a song and it's in your head all day? An "earworm" they call it. I woke up this morning and the two scale shapes and the arpeggio (root on 6th) were being played in my head, not the sounds but kind of in my mind's eye, like a daydream. I was kind of flicking back and forth from the scale generator on the screen to my left hand on the neck in my mind's eye. It was all very surreal and is still happening now, it was happening during my drive to work. It's not distracting, it's hard to explain but something has happened since getting that folder. Must be down to FOCUS. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Hi Phil!
Yeah! It's very important to practice these shapes (both arpeggios and scales) in different parts of the neck and different keys so you get used to the shape by itself. "Practice it in every key" should be added to every exercise or concepts given. It's the same than "Practice over metronome". Nice to know that you are totally focused! It will soon become second nature, then it becomes truly useful
Tonight's notes. I didn't get much time, (30 minutes) but I played the minor pentatonic and dominant 7 arpeggio all over the neck. What I found interesting was that my EARS, not my eyes were telling me when I went wrong, which I think means something good is happening. Amendment, it was the MAJOR pentatonic I paid all over the neck. I know the G shape pentatonic like the back of my hand Tonight I was having a go to the backing track, I played arpeggio notes over the A7 chord and the A minor pentatonic over the other chords with some chromatic notes. Tomorrow, I will try playing the A major pentatonic notes over the A7 chord, is that correct? I'll get a recording to you this weekend. I may mix it up with a different backing for a challenge and a change. This is not bad at all. It's nice to know that you are getting more familiar with these shapes. I would try other notes and parts of the shapes for the IV and V chords. In this audio you stay all the time at 7th fret third string (bending) and the 5th fret. Experiment with other strings. I think that this: "I am going to try using, as you suggested, Major pentatonic over i and minor over iv and v next time." can bring fresh air and ideas. -------------------- My lessons

I am already using minor over iv and v but hopefully using major pent over i will help, as you say bring fresh ideas. I think the current hurdle is coming up with things AND following the chords, if you think back to that improv I did over an E minor progression (HERE) you said it blue you away. This was because I only used one scale pattern and only followed the beat. It all boils down to what I said before about being able to read and write but not create a novel. I need to listen to more blues, I have loads of blues just don't get time other than my 15 minutes drive to work, I don't want to sit with my wife with headphones on Cheers Gab I've sent you another pm

That Spotify playlist is awesome, I'm surprised to see "For The Love Of God" in there though, never had that down as blues. I'll try to listen on my earbuds before I go to sleep but I sometimes find it doesn't help my insomnia to listen to things so near to sleeping. I don't have Spotify Premium due to lack of time to listen, I don't have unlimited data on my phone so out of house listening is limited plus on a phone the free version only allows shuffle play, BUT, on my android tablet (no 3g or 4g) and on my PC, I can select any track I like and play it. On the phone app if you click a track it stops playing the shuffle track and plays a 10 second preview, then goes back to the track it was playing on shuffle. Very odd. I've added another A7 12 bar backing into my revision list, just for variety, I played that first Eric Clapton Blues in A quietly on my hi-fi while I was jamming, I came up with some new things then slipped back into "Mr Monotony mode" I have experimented tonight, I found that if I play freestyle, no backing but moving between A major and A minor penta, I can come up with many more ideas, more like that jam in E minor that I linked to above, it seems like the backing restricts my creativity. I really need to work on this and break out of it somehow. I guess it's all down to doing it, doing it, doing it. Obviously my brain still isn't coping with so much going on Re that jam in Em, when you heard it your comment was "From time to time you share a new improv and you blown my mind. smile.gif This is amazing Phil! Great sense of phrasing, use of silences, perfect tone. Everything is fantastic. I can say that this audio reflects that all your hard work is paying mate, don't you think so?? Congratulations!!" Spotify Premium is one of my best monthly investments.  I don't remember if I've recommended this backing before: It could maybe bring fresh air into your blues practice since it has a different rhythm and feel but still keep on I, IV, V blues progression. You can apply the same concepts that we've been talking about. About your message, yes! I read it mate. I'll answer it soon.

That backing tricked me, it doesn't follow the same format even though it's i iv v I mean not the same amount of bars per chord are played like in a 12 bar. I can understand that Spotify is a great investment, but when I have free time that's when I'm practising my guitar I'll give that backing a go over the next few days, and the other two in my revision folder, to spice things up a little bit.
