ive been practicing some lessosn by marcus lavendell and he uses fingers 1 2 3 a lot, almost never uses pinky for playing. mainly 1 3 4 licks(maybe laso 1 2 4 licks not sure) what do you think about using it like that? is that something individual for him or is it a common recommended technique? It is individual i always use my pinky when playing 3 note per string patterns.... -------------------- My Gear

Individual matter man, anyway you feel comfortable you do it, in the end every possible way should be no problem to play, but streaming towards one option and really rehearsing it perfectly is great as well.

It is for sure individual, nobody forces you to play through certain scales with a certian fingering. Many people tend to not use their pinky that much, I would recommend training it though cause it gives you options, weather you want to use them or not is your decision then, but at least you have all options then. It is just like alternate picking vs. economy picking, alternate is cool, economy is cool, and if you can play both you are perfectly prepared for any situation.
