GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Just Bought M Audio Fast Track Mk I

Posted by: Headbanger Feb 4 2013, 04:26 PM

I Just bought an M Audio Fast Back USB Interface MK1 off ebay for 50 euros delivered...That was my budget as I'm still trying to import my Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute into Spain and customs have it in Madrid at the moment...awaiting duty and vat etc.and I dare not spend any more.
I have read that quite a few guys on here use M Audio and it should be OK for a home user like me....I Hope to use it with ASIO4All...I'm not sure if I will need to down load M audio drivers or not as well....anyone?

If the M-Audio has its own ASIO drivers then use those rather than ASIO4All - you'll almost certainly get better performance and lower latency. If it hasn't ASIO4ALL should work.

Spanish tax and customs - I'd love to say I love those guys. I'd love to but...

I'd love to too Tony...but I think its gonna be about 3.7 per cent duty and 21 per cent tax ...Gulp!! I was sort of hoping that it might sneak through without anyone noticing....damn!

The seller of the M-Audio just stated on ebay that the buyer can download drivers from the M audio site...so until I get it and try it out I won't know...as I already installed ASIO4all to use with Reaper/amplitube, I am hoping everything will work well together or it will be back on ebay! laugh.gif

ASIO drivers are available.

You'll be fine with it for a while, then you'll look for an upgrade - for thus work all equipment purchases ;-)

I don't know what ASIO is..I am assuming it isn't the same as the driver I have the ASIO4all?
Upgrading means you are still alive. smile.gif

I empathise with you mate. 21% IVA, 300 Euros per month Seguridad Social and then income tax. Sometimes it really does seem like it costs too much to work. I have a ring file full of letters from the tributaria and hacienda. They make lovely bedtime reading if you're ever really bored smile.gif.

(I just did our annual IVA return so I'm even more negative then usual tongue.gif).

ASIO stands for audio stream in/out and is just a digital audio protocol for sound cards running with Windows. An ASIO that is designed specifically for a card should be able to make best use of the card's particular design whereas ASIO4ALL is meant to work with any card. So the first is specific and optimised for a particular card whilst ASIO4ALL is more general.

Ok thanks Tony...I just went to M audio.com and they have so many different products I got lost looking for drivers and manuals.

I think this is the one I will need.

Great decision! I'm using Fast Track Pro at home now and it's really good! M-Audio Asio drivers work better than Asio4all!

This is just an ordinary MkI, I don't think it will compare to your pro version!!! smile.gif I hope the ASIO/ M Audio combo works well with Reaper/Amplitube because I am getting a lot of horrible feedback everytime I choose something with overdrive in it...I find myself plugging in to my VOX practise amp to get better sounds at the moment, when I really need to be sat in front of the PC top get my best value out of GMC lessons!!!

Well, I think that the quality is pretty similar, the difference is that the pro version has more ins/outs and controls. It must work perfect with Reaper and Amplitude. wink.gif

I got one of these about 4 months ago and still have no clue how to record with it. When you get it or anyone who knows how to use it can you please do a short tutorial. I use or wanna use mine with my Mac Book Pro. Thanks and good luck with it. I have heard nothing but good things about it.

Edit. Is it easier to use with a mic than as a direct plug and play?

Thanks...I don't have a mac, but If I work it out how to use it on my pc I'll let you know, although there are plenty of other users here who can probably tell you!! smile.gif

Someone just told me on chat that The MKI M Audio Fast Track Guitar Interface had trouble on Windows 7..I run Win7 64 bit and haven't got my second hand interface yet...Now I'm worried. Does anyone know anything about this? I only want to record my guitar into the pc...nothing fancy...At the moment I'm plugging straight into the mic jack and get noise...Its never going to be for pro recording just for posting my stuff on here for feedback....

ASIO4ALL works fine with these and it works fine with W7 too. I have 2 of them on 2 separate PC's, one W7 and one on Vista. (Vista soon to be binned for 7!!)
smile.gif

The link you posted to the Drivers D/L was correct as well!

smile.gif Happiness is my M audio fast track which arrived yesterday...Its an amazing improvement on my sound...wow.

Thanks to everyone on GMC for the advice...I have got a great set up now and so far, fairly cheap. I don't have any sound issues with my USB interface...I use it combined with Reaper and different VST amps including Poulins, Aradaz and Amplitube (and many others), and have got good clean/dirty sounds from my trusty US Fender Strat.

I started here with just a practice amp and didn't know how to plug my guitar into the computer effectively...a month later I have got the best guitar sounds/rec equipment at my disposal....haha ...I think I almost sounded good...strumming my few power chords!!! biggrin.gif

Everyone here is very helpful and I can honestly say that I wouldn't have worked it out alone...apart from my missing guitar(see other thread) I am one happy dude with a bunch of new toys to play with!!!!! Cheers GMC ers!!!!!!
