They posted a list of winners of the 2008 swedish metal awards that aired on saturday. Here's the list:

* Hard-rock Category: Hardcore Superstar - Dreamin' In A Casket
* Death Metal Category: Arch Enemy - Rise Of The Tyrant
* Heavy/Power Metal Category: Sabaton - Metalizer
* Glam/Sleazy Category: Crashdiet - Unattractive Revolution
* Punk/Hardcore Category: Dia Psalma - Djupa Skogen
* Metal Category: Pain - Psalms Of Extinction
* Alternative Metal Category: Dark Tranquillity - Fiction
* Best Newcommers Category: Sonic Syndicate
* Best Live Act Category: Nightwish - Dark Passion Play
* Best Foreign Hard-rock Category: Europe
* Best Foreign Metal Category: Machine Head - The Blackening
* Best Foreign Live Act Category: W.A.S.P.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners. Good job guys!

But I do have a question. Since when is Dark Tranquillity alternative metal? laugh.gif

Yeah, Lots of great music there. My guitar teacher's band (Insania) was entered in the heavy/power category but didn't win. Sabaton is definitely a worthy winner there though, awesome band.

I usually hate these lists, but i have to agree with this, even without Tarja there live shows are unrivaled.

There are always a certain amount of controversy around these types of awards. In this case the bands were voted by the fans. And if you go read the forums of metal sites, a lot of people are arguing that the voters didn't know what they were doing.

If it were a panel then people would probably accuse them of being elitists. There is unforutnately no way around this. But I think that the American Music Awards have probably the best solution. Instead of "Best" this or that... They have "Favorite...". This is a lot harder to debate. It is obviously the favorite since it got the most votes laugh.gif
