upper back pain when practicing

I get pain in my right shoulderblade when I practice for more than 45 minutes. If you reach back with your left hand and touch the inside of your right shoulderblade, that's where it hurts. Does anyone know any exercises or tips (other than taking frequent breaks...realizing maybe that IS the answer) to help with this? Has anyone else had this problem? I'm playing an SG while sitting in a chair.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. Wasn't sure if this was "off-topic"

regards,

Thaellar

For an exercise, stand straight up facing away from a wall. Then, put your arm back and touch the wall, and sort of pull away using your shoulder muscles, while keeping your hand on the wall the whole time. Do that for about 30 secs to a minute on each shoulder and you should be good to go.

Thanks Jete. I'll give that a go.

This happens to me. Check to see if you are extending your neck/head out over a little more than usual when looking down out your guitar. Watch Pavel's video's. He looks to have a comfortable position when he practices. Perhaps setting just a little more upright might do it. Sometimes just moving your neck around a little might help too.

Great suggestion. I made a quick vid with my camcorder and saw I was kind of hunched over the guitar with my shoulders slumped a bit. A little bit of conscious effort at good posture looks like it might be the ticket.

yeah my back has been extremly stiff for the past months now. I went to the chiropractor for quite some time and i found that for most people, that can help but i mainly just take some meds because i frequently get like these tension headaches in my neck and shoulders. But if that doesnt work the stretch against the wall and with the neck usually does the trick ( as previously stated by jeff )

I also have this problem - in fact if I want to practice for a longer time I need to do it standing to have the back/neck/straight - otherwise I will get tired very quickly.
