this is a problem which has put me off picking for a while now. when ever i reach about 156 bmp at four notes per beat my upper hand tenses (elbow and up). At first i though it was because i didn't learn it right but then i learnt it again from 80 bpm and it stills happens. im not sure if this is supposed to happen because every one says to relax when you play but it doesn't speed possible when you reach a certain speed. i really need some pointers for this because its been frustrating me for a while now.

I believe someone said a few days ago, the tension just "clicks" for you, or something like this. I think Pavel said it, but I have a terrible memory sad.gif.

I think only your wrist should be moving. You just got to relax 100% and just let your hand "flow" tongue.gif
I dont know how to explain, and I dont know how to achieve this either. But when you're totally relaxed your hand just smoothly flows up and down the string xD Sort of sound stupid I guess, but its like that for me atleast.

Relax as much as possible, just like robin said. Tension can lead to injury, or too much of it, you will know when you have the needed amount of tension, and its usually never very much.

Yeah, and you get tired of it. If you relax you barely have to use any muscles. Your hand jumps up and down, sort of.

i have a question similar to this... can you always have a controlled arm when achieving ultra mega high speeds? Or is there a point where you just need to stop relaxing and actually have some tension in the arm to achieve more speed?
