GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Tech 21...the Amp That No One Suggests!

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Mar 22 2009, 05:20 PM

hey guys, im here to talk to you about another good budget product. I know a lot of people recently have been searching for cheaper priced amps (and who's to blame them)

well i had the pleasure of demoing a brand called tech 21..

im sure you all have heard of tech 21 in one shape or form whether it be their sansamp pedals or the amps themselves. The one im hear to talk about is their trademark 30!

this little guy is great...best solid state sound hands down! why? they use ALL ANALOG circuitry! meaning there is no modeling or nothing! this is the real deal here. the sounds you can get are amazing! it is so simple the way this works.

there are 3 x 3 switches that go like this:

AMP Mod Speaker
calif HOT US
british High Gain UK
tweed Clean Flat

you can mix and match using little switches that select each from the amp. Note: this amp is on the smaller side, there is no footswitch, this one is meant to be a studio amp.

there is an effects loop
(and one of my favorite features) a speaker out
very responsive EQ
Direct out
REAL 3 SPRING REVERB
and more!

brand new from their site these are $300, but it isnt uncommon to find them used for less than $200,
im picking up one in mint condition for $150 to deal with my super loud mesa! (which i think i decided not to sell)
this is the only model ive had the pleasure of trying out, i know there are other with more effects all of the analog persuasion! go try one now!

here are some youtube vids and demos:

Looks a decent bit of kit, pity his playing wasnt enough show the true range in the various settings, I like the idea of the analogue emulations as well.

Just keep in mind that Marshall's MG series is also analog but those are usually known to sound like utter crap.
NO OFFENSE TO MG USERS, just about everyone's opinion though. smile.gif
