Hello everyone,
I just got a PreSonus Preamp and with it came Studio One DAW. There are a load of instruments with it but I can't get them to record. I can play them through the keyboard on the screen but it won't record them. Any ideas?
Cheers
Maybe demo limitation?
Thanks Mertay,
I had the free version but I've just installed the full demo version. Still can't do it.
Cheers
Phil
I use to have the limited studio one when I bought my audiobox 22VSL. It will not accept outside vst's till you buy the full version. That is when I started with Reaper . I would suggest that since you have your feet wet with reaper. Trying to figure it out when there is not as much help might leave you frustrated, it did me
I have Studio One 2 and I will try to help you. To be much easier for you, I made some print screen with all the steps. I'm sure you miss a setting I put all the steps in a video because those pictures had a big size and was impossible to upload them in this topic
One important question. You use a midi controller or you want to use your qwerty keyboard? I made you the steps for qwerty keyboard because I wasn't sure if you bought recently an midi controller. If you have a midi controller the steps are the same but you must replace the qwerty keyboard with the name of your controller (probably you will be able to find your midi controller in the list from Step 3). If you will not have in that list your midi controller, in the top of the list you have " New Keyboard". Select this and will appear in the right side a window. Write there the name of your controller and press ok. Will be automatically put in the list. Be sure that before you install the driver for your midi controller.
I forgot to mention something but I guess you know this. Mouse clicks are not transmitting midi notes You can play using the mouse but you can not record. You can use your mouse only when you want to map (Step 9). If you don't want to do this follows only the first 8 steps.
BTW I made the example with a virtual electric piano but the steps are the same no matter what kind of instrument you will choose.
As my personal advice try not to learn all the DAW, choose one that you like, learn it well and remain attached to it This is my strategy and it works for me. I use Ableton for all my recordings because I know this DAW at a good level. So, I'm not a master in Studio One but with simple things I can help you
Thanks Monica,
I was using the mouse, I'm new to midi so don't really understand at the moment. I'll watch the video later, thank you so much for taking the time to do that:)
I don't want to learn the whole DAW but I thought I could use the instruments when I do creativity workshop. Create an atmospheric backdrop, make it a wav file and import it into Reaper for the rest of the project
Thank you. I might get a midi keyboard now. This gas is going to bankrupt me
Cheers
Your welcome Phil I'm glad I could help you. Don't worry you will learn fast how midi works.
Now I understood what you want to do with Studio One. I think it's a great idea to use some instruments to create an atmospheric backdrop. Couple of them sounds really cool
A midi controller always will be very useful. It will make things much easier and comfortable. You still have time to add a midi keyboard on your list for Santa Claus
I have just taken my nephew to see santa and while I was there I also asked him for a midi controller
Thanks Monica, that sorted it with the QWERTY. Now I need a proper device, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I managed to create a wav using qwerty last night so its all good. I have a one octave keyboard
Thanks Monica
