I've been checking out discussion on this topic about Fender brand and although I do agree with Staffy I don't have so strict approach. I have a great masterbuilt in the shop near me for 4000e, which is not 8000$. I also believe masterbuilt can be found for 3500e if you look for it, so this price is acceptable for someone who wants to get a superb instrument with a Fender tag on it. Nothin wrong with that, I know lots of people who like nice and shiny logos.
On the other hand, Staffay is very right about getting third party Strat type guitar that will be better than Standards. This is relative as well, because Strat factory guitar varies from piece to piece a lot. If you look in the stores for quite some time (several years), and try all Standards you can find, I can guarantee that at some point you will get a deal of a century. They just picked the right wood and you have a good platform for upgrading. For the last passage, there is a question for getting a custom one. Any experienced luthier can build it, and for the price of 2000$ you can get superb strat guitar with top specs and hardware, depending on the luthier. However if you don't know what you are doing and are not and expert in the Strat field, I wouldn't recommend getting a custom job. Only experienced players can order Strat guitar, and choose the right kind of luthier (trying out his previous instruments ofc), and come out with a right kind of piece. If the luthier has access to the right wood, he can build a platform and the rest can be handled by the player. Strat was made as a guitar that is easily-servicable, so almost any experience player can swap the hardware to his liking. The trend here in Sweden is that the shops are buying these guitars, placing them in monters to show the customers: "look at us, we are a serious shop". Then we have the fact that it depends on which Masterbuilder that actually built the guitar in question, if its NOS, hardware, wood and other parameters. I dont think that they have a standard price for these.... There are levels among the Masterbuilt one's as well. For instance, an exact copy of SRV's "Lenny", limited Masterbuilt Run of 235 Worldwide, built by Masterbuilder Todd Krause costs 16.444€ at Thomann.de............ but I guess he must be one of the most experienced ones.... If You're not experienced, You will not be able to tell the luthier what to do or evaluate his work, unless You contact an already reconized and well-known one. I asked to my friend and bad news, Fender don't sell their guitars in Switzerland... man, is that possible ?
So all the shops in Switzerland that sell Fender's order them on the net in some shop in France and Germany. Can't believe how stupid this is. Some of you know the shop : http://www.musicstore.de ? I am probably going to order it there. What about the guarantee ?
