I see two variations of this lick but i dont know which to choose. Here is the lick (in the legato way) E -------------------------------------- B ------8p6--------------------------- G --------------8p7p5h7------------ D --------------------------------------- A --------------------------------------- E --------------------------------------- I could practice the lick with legato, or i could practice it with economy picking like this: (Down pick)(upstroke)(Down pick) E -------------------------------------------- B--8p6----------------------------------- G --------------8p7----------5h7---------------- D --------------------------------------------- A --------------------------------------------- E --------------------------------------------- The idea is to play this exercise over and over in a fast pace - a shred lick. Real purpose of economy picking is to have ALL notes played with pick while you use one picking motion when crossing 2 different strings. And what you have here is a legato lick, you don't pick the last note on B string, you use pull-off. So imo it doesn't matter a lot which way do you pick, at least not when crossing strings since you don't pick every note. But you changed things on G string tho, now you have 2 pick strokes and not only one, as in version 1. So this is up to you and your taste, you can keep it all legato like in version 1 or you can pick twice on G string. And it all depends on tempo ofc. Thats my opinion If you have to pick twice on G string I would maybe start with up stroke on B string do another up on G (sweep) and then down stroke on G followed by down stroke on B (sweep).
