There are many great books on mixing and also some great advice on internet forums and videos etc. However reading. listening and watching stuff on mixing isn't the same as actually doing it - if you want to learn how to mix you have to actually mix tracks. Sounds great in theory but in practice what is often really difficult for home mixers is getting good, well tracked/recorded tracks to mix.
Well here's one and it's one that we all know... Queen's 'Don't stop me now' here These are the actual tracks, stems and groups that were tracked/recorded for the original mix of that song - they are the original, professional recordings. Take a look and download them if you want to practice mixing of a song that you know really well and if you're up to it maybe enter the competition as well. As Annie Lennox (kind of) sang, 'Some of them like to use me, some of them like to abuse me...' and many of them are actually helpful .One thing that's well worth mentioning - the recording of Mercury's vocal is so good that it may not need that much work at mixing. Great idea! Getting raw tracks to mix with is a killer way to work on mixing. And it's a contest to boot! Cool
