Original lesson: Beginner's Corner 21: String Bending by Bear Rose

Attempt 9 but first as a lefty. No vibrato this time, I only worked on targeting pitch with my string bending technique.

Hi Rhida. Ok this is different - the guitar is around the other way!!

I assume that you're naturally left handed and decided to use your natural way instead of force a right handed style. I admire your dedication.

Ok, most of the bends are around the correct pitch but it still needs work. You probably already know about the process of using reference notes on the same string to help train the ear to get the right pitch. Just keep going with this and your fingers will start associating semitone and whole tone intervals with a certain amount of pressure needed to get the pitch.

If you can, try to keep the timing closer to the original at moments like 0:22. You take your finger away too early, cutting the notes off prematurely.

I see you work hard on your playing. That's really weird to see you playing left side this time

I've viewed some of your previous takes and your pitch sense has highly improved. Many of bends are very very close to be perfect - only a few have a visible mismatch with the pitch. Also your playing seems to be a bit cleaner - less unwanted noises.

Let me share some personal, very subjective thoughts on your left/right struggling. Please do not think I'm trying to force anything on you. Just to rethink for you.

I have been watching your takes - both left and right and I can't say there is a huge difference in your playign comfort visibility. Your progress in this lesson is rather caused by your constant work, than the guitar neck reverse. I have a few friends, who are lefty but play right handed guitars or bases. Some of them are a professional, respected musicians in my country. The truth is...at advanced level of playing both hands have same much to do. If you look at piano or sax...you'll notice those instruments do not come out in left handed versions...while, of course there are left handed players using them.

Beginner stage is a tricky moment to decide about left or right guitar version. Work of both hands is not eqal and may determine some thoughts when something seems to be a little harder to play. Unfortunately this they moment when you have to decide.
I had left handed students, playing right handed guitars. They were not having any more of problems while learning, than rught handed students. In both cases - they were playing right handed guitars. Keep in mind this could be a coincidence, rule taken from only my experience, and I belive you are the best person to choose what's best for you.

The reason I'm writting this is my belief that in case of instruments we are all both-handed. Now the difference is your potential, future comfort:
- numer of available left-hand gear
- possibility to borrow a guitar if your does break few minutes before going on stage (does happen!)
- left hand avillablity of particular models
- Price (often higher than the same model for right hand)

I've been working in a music shop for years and seen ocean of tears of young people step into the shop and having to choose between 4 or 5 guitars, where there where hundred to choose from if they would be playing right hand. Also (that's more funny than sad) - I was not able to demonstrate left handed instrument so they they could judge them only using their one skills (very often beginner skills) and there was no way to show them that this instrument can sound really good, unles tere was a right hand version as well, at the same moment.

From my observations you're one of the people who are able to play the regular way. Unfortunately I'm not in your shoes to tell what you feel while playing. That's why I repeat - I'm not trying to force anything but wanted to make you struggle with this thing for a little longer. Remember - this choice will affect all your future playing.
