Metallica = Nice, Warm
 did I miss something? Anyway I think the Vox VT30 matches the description quite well. It's a decent modeling amp, it has got the important effects, and it has got a tube in there. +1 for the Vox
 It's a great amp! Haven't tried the Line6 Vypyr though, but I've always liked the sound of a Vox better than a Line6.. |

My vote for Vypyr 60 if he can afford it, if not, then some cheaper of the same series.

Although the original Vypers were transistor Peavey launched tube versions recently
 . Think they only hit the street in early Feb in the US and I'm not sure if they've been launched in Europe. From Peavey details of the tube Vyper 60 are here .As Zakk says though an attenuator would be needed for home use of a tube 60W amp .

I vote for Vypyr 75 or mini JSX Satriani signature amp...They would do a VERY good job!

Big Metallica fan myself, to get the basic sound:
Select the bridge pickup (perferably humbucker) on your guitar Turn volume knobs and gain all the way up to allow total saturation. Then for the EQ tone knobs on the amp or effect, boost the highs and lows to almost the max and cut the mid - around Bass: 8.7 / Mid 2.9 / Treble 9.9. Doing this keeps the sound from being muddy, more distortion and clean cut notes. The Mesa Boogie Amp will give a good rich Metallica sound but may cost a bit, so best to use effects? I use Laney Amp and POD effect with a Metallica preset. --------------------  Play Games Arcade Take a break, Play Games! Vox could be a great solution as well Kaz! I definitely recommend it!
(he will not crank the 50W vox in the house either btw)
