Hi all!
Im thinking of getting a new guitar, since I got some money after my father.
I have particulary looked at two:

Les Paul Standard 2002 black, with burstbuckers and a linear 60's neck.
Suhr Classic but with a humbucker in neck position and with a more modern style radius and jumbo frets.

Now I must ask You guy's. Anyone got experience from these one's? Pro & cons?
Isn't the black Les Paul kinda unusal? I haven't seen many black standards around.
What will a good price be? (they are both new)

TIA

hey staffay, i would go for the strat personally but that,s only because i always loved strat style guitars IE: stratocasters and ibanez as far as les pauls go i have zero experience with these, i don,t like the shape or weight of these guitars, of course not to say they are bad cause we all know they are used as much as strats, it will be strats or ibanez for me...just putting in my two cents tho wink.gif

I also been a Strat man for years, but I'm kinda disappointed on Fender, with their ridicolous prizes and no craftmanship except for the high-end masterbuilt models. This Les Paul isn't heavy, since it's a little bit chambered and the neck reminds of a Fender since it's quite thin. On the other hand I have two strats and a Warmoth strat-type already... But the Suhr just plays like a dream, even that it's not really THE vintage sound. Guess Im a little bit ambivivalent.....

As I said in an other thread, I was playing about 15 strats in the last day's and it was just 1 (or two) that I actually thought was better than my Mexican one..... But it was a masterbuilt for about 7000$ or so.... They just ripping us off....
As I'm starting to collect good guitars, I dont think I will regret neither of the purchases, maybe I can get a better prize by buying both.. tongue.gif

I love Les Paul models, but I love Suhr guitars as well so...
I think I'd go for both biggrin.gif

I've played both models, and they're both very good guitars (and very different!) smile.gif

Do You know the regular prices? Isn't the black color on a Les Paul quite unusual ???

Black LP standards aren't unusual. They are a regular production model.

I think you don't see too many arround because it doesn't look as good as LP customs or studios in black.
Goldtop or bursttop LP standards look gorgeous though!

Hmmm, thats true, customs look beautiful in black. I know they are a regular production model, but i thought it was peculiar that You can't almost find any ads on black ones's, in contrast goldtops and burst -models there are plenty of.. Do You think I shall pay less because it's black?? Do You now the regular price for these? New or used?
This one just plays fantastic since it has an "even" thin neck in contrast to the 08' models that grows thicker near the body.

If it's new, it should cost as much as a brand new one from 09. That's what I see in the stores I visit, all les pauls are roughly the same price regardless of their age...

I don't know the prices in sweden but in Germany they would be arroun 2000 Euros new

Hmm, it's about the same here, but one thing that annoys me is that every Gibson I've been looking at are generally priced higher and all sellers both on the net and in the stores tries to get an impression that their "real" price is a discount... very confusing....

Personally I'd go for the Suhr.
Every man and his dog can own a Les Paul!!!!
Same can't be said for a Suhr!! Secondly the Suhrs are sublime to play!!!

Those Suhr guitars are something else mate, I was looking at them the other day thinking "Yeah, another strat copy" sooooo wrong! they have an inherent quality that just makes them feel like finely honed machines, miles and away from fender 'feel' though, dont know how that would sit with a strat player like yourself!
In terms of Les Pauls, well, black is historically a bad colour for LP as they are deemed (And frequently are) the cheaper version of the standard range, nothing wrong with that if you like black, but take that into account when purchasing. Im actually getting rid of my les paul as although i love the looks and tone, actually playing one can be a an ergonomic nightmare, the stretch for you thumb past the 18th fret is a feat of endurance for mere mortals!

Yeah, the Suhr plays fantastic, but it doesn't has the "vintage" sound that I expected, rather a little fatter, but maybe that is just a pickup issue... What I really want is the vintage "wooden" tone. But I would love to have the Les Paul as well, just because of the neck. It's one of the smoothest Les Paul necks I ever played, normally they are like baseball bats, which doesn't fit my small hands at all. And I think it's pretty cool with a black Les Paul, the most are burst which I think is a little bit common, although it looks great.... Maybe I just have go for both, and sell some other guitar....

If' you're looking for a LP model and slim neck you should glare over to the Hagström booth to find a Swede model. The Super Swede would be my choice for a Gibson replacement, comes with a coil split.
Fastest neck in the world the claim, not that I care about "speed" when it comes to necks but comfort rather. And it is the most comfortable neck in teh world. My long ago work mate had a made in Sweden Hagström, a fantastic guitar! Now that the production is on again (in China) I just have to find the right moment to get a Super Swede and possibly an XL model.

Hmm, I remember when they was made in Sweden in the 70's. You're absolutely right, they made great guitars. I didn't seen the ones produced in China though. It sounds interesting, pricewise it will make a lot difference, I believe.
