Posted by: Slavenko Erazer Sep 1 2012, 02:56 PM
Ben , i hoped you will solve this with ease
Okay, they are most influental and best-selling Canadian Thrash/heavy metal band ever
Their members were drum legend Mike Mangini and Dave Padden (long-time vocalist and touring guitarist/vocalist)One of the albums also features sensational performances by some of metal’s finest players like Alexi Laiho (Children Of Bodom), Danko Jones (Danko Jones), Michael Amott and Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy), Corey Beaulieu (Trivium), William Adler (Lamb Of God), Jeff Loomis (Nevermore), Jesper Strømblad (In Flames), Steve ´Lips` Kudlow (Anvil), Anders Bjørler (The Haunted), Mike Mangini (Steve Vai, Extreme, Annihilator, Dream Theater), Jacob Lynam (Lynam) and more.
Their founder, vocalist, guitarist and bass guitarist also are endorsed by Hughes and Kettner Coreblade amps!
Posted by: TreyDeschamp Sep 1 2012, 03:08 PM
Is the band Nihil?
I know Alexi performed on one of their albums around 99' or 2000. He also played on the song In the Heat of the Night in 1993 for the finish band To/Die/For....
You've still got me stumped.

That should have read 'not being familiar' !
P.S. I didn't really guess the riff.. I only guessed Annihilator as soon as Slav wrote 'Canadian..'
But I guess I'd better submit the next one to keep it smooth
Here's my take, one 90's classic masterpiece, i'm sure it's very fammiliar to you guys!! (btw can anyone explain me how can i get better sound *without big hiss in Guitar rig 5 pro)
Gotta tweak those GR5 patches and use the Noise gate for the hiss, I cant use many GR patches without gating them, too noisy.
Totally forgot about finding a new riff, sorry! Slav reminded me, so here's a quick one Didn't bother much with the impulses, so the tone aint much, but if you know the song, then you'll know this riff!
Hint 1 and hopefully only: The guitar player have played with one of the guitar players from the last guess the riff!

Thanx TODD, ii could get better INPUT tone by lovering down the Michrophone BOOST in my realtek HD Options. When i had Microphone boost turned on, it was a lot of BASS while playing on lover E string . The sound;s now a little bit crispier!!
QUOTE (Todd Simpson @ Sep 2 2012, 05:06 AM)
I"d say try some of the presets in my GUITAR RIG THREAD! All of the GUITAR RIG 4 PRESETS are compatible and I dare say every single one of them sound a bit better than the example at hand. I know what your up against though. The stock presets can be sort of, well, crappy.
So, i guess by the picture, this is Ron Jarzombek , but not fammiliar with his stuff..
Posted by: Sollesnes Sep 2 2012, 08:02 PM
Right! I'll round up to 24 hours, so next one who wants can post a new riff! The guitarist was Ron Jarzombek as you said, in the band Blotted Science with the song Synaptic Plasticity!

C'mon Slav you can do better than that! Ok here are a few hints 1: It's a solo artist 2: It's his first album 3: It's from the late 80's 4: And most of if not all of his music are instrumentals 5: And he is pretty well known today especially among guitar players.

Wow no more guesses? Ok here are more hints, time is running out.
6: This artist was signed by Mike Varney to the Shrapnel record label for this first album. 7: The title of the album is the artists name. 8: We have a member here at GMC who has the same first name and same last initial of the artist in question and this member has a post in the Extreme Sports thread currently. 9: This artist is currently endorsed by Laguna Guitars and his current Axe is an orange LE924 Hopefully that will help, I am sure most of us know of this guy.

The Reckoning- Defining Armagedon
Nice one AK! When you said it was something very current I didn't think I had a chance.
Yesss!! Nice job DeGroot!! Ben will be proud and bestow many donuts!

I think some donuts should be in order
So, I won't waste no time here... as I didn't take much time to record this.
W00T!! Death to False Metal!! Ok we have an Extra Special Guess the Riff!! Someone had better get this one with the quickness As this tune is very current.
Haha, Rich that rocks !! I'm honoured !!
That is also 99% accurate... instead of going from an open G to that A#, it goes from A to A#, so you can keep the index finger where it is and then just add the middle finger to play the A# right after. Great work !!! D

This is scary! The other day, when I jammed a little while browsing the forum, I was thinking to myself that if I ever manage to guess a riff (first) then I will play Rock Forever. Needless to say, I would have had this one had I only checked the thread in the morning. Now I need a plan B...

Ok, another easy one for ya !! One of my favourite rifs of all time..

I thought you might get a kick out of that, especially at how fast it was guessed! You know I had to alter the riff to avoid copyright infringement , yeah thats it, thats the ticket. It was my pleasure , glad I could put a smile on your face The Reckoning Rocks!
Judas Priest - Rock Forever !

Hint #1: The band is not European nor American.
Oh tough one nice riff Hungry!

Hint #2: It's Japanese and from the 1980's.

Loudness Run For Your Life!!!
It's great that you've reminded me that i should again listen to these excellent old albums...

Slav has got the correct answer and gets to play next mystery riff.

I would also like to push this great track from the same album. The main riff (which starts at 1:02 and could as well have been my choice for you to guess) is a 6/8 type riff not unlike Blood of my Enemies (or Ben's shuffle lesson).

Wow, that really does sound like BOME !! Their variation on that riff still sounds good though

Man! I had all but forgotten about that band! I remember that guitar player being in the Guitar For The Practicing Musician mag back in the day. Nice riff!
no, no no I know you know other stuff I just figured with that sense of humor you would try to pull a fast on on use and I was trying to beat you to the punch
stumped by the riff however

Sorry guys, been away yesterday!
You seriously don't know it?
It is a song by a canadian band, off of their second album that was released in 2006. They've got one amazing guitar player with a haircut you will always remember.
