GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Swart Atomic Space Tone Amp

Hi Guys. Does anyone have experience or heard second-hand about this amp? They are an American boutique company producing hand-wired amps. This one is 20 watts (tube/valve). Seems like a good classic rock amplifier, but wondering if it might be underpowered for a 200-250 person gig (wedding or dance in a typical hotel hall for that kind of event) - even if miced. Headroom is important for the kind of stuff we play. I've been told this starts to fuzz at about 10:00 and break up at 2:00. Right now I use a Blues Deluxe for this kind of venue (too much Fender treble for my taste) which I always mic and rarely have it up over 6. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Great amp! - but made for an overdriven sound at lower volumes (not as low as a Marshall class 5, but pretty low). I personally don't think it has enough clean headroom for what you'b be using it for.
Check out these Orange Amps if the Fender has too much top end for your taste ... http://www.orangeamps.com/products/guitar-amp-combos/rockerverb-series/

Funny you mentioned Orange cos that that's the other option i'm considering. The Rockerverb seems maybe a bit overpowered for what i need (50 tube watts - plus it weighs 80 lbs). Any experience/comments on the Dual Terror?

No exp w/a 'dual terror'. And yes the Rockerverb is plenty powerful, lol! And heavy. Tonally though it's probably what you're looking for.

How about the new Ampeg amps? http://www.ampeg.com/products/gvt/
I've only played older combos from the 70s - fantastic and not too bright.

Hi Tim! I don't know that amp so I can't help you with this one... but for that utility I think that Orange amps are a very good option.
