So when alternate picking it seems most people recommend resting the wrist/palm on the lower strings for muting unwanted noise in addition to stability. This is no problem for me but where do u guys put your hand when picking the low e string since there is no lower string? Am I supposed to move my hand onto the body of the guitar or just kinda float it above the e string. I have a les Paul style body so the strings are fairly high off the body which makes it kinda awkward to have my hand resting on the actual body but hovering my hand above the string feels like I have no control. Maybe just need to practice floating my hand more?

So been learning the basic 5 string maj and minor sweep shapes and dont have too much trouble handling sweeps that dont require barring. The only difficult sweep shapes are those that require me to bar with my ring finger or have more than one bar going on. Any tips on getting these sweeps with bars down?

Do any of you practice standing all the time? I find standing is much more comfortable on my picking arm since it just kinda hangs- no contorting my shoulder to adjust the picking arm like when sitting. I tried playing in the classical sitting position since a lot of people said it mimics standing better, but even then standing is more comfortable

When i pick the low strings i usually rest the part of my hand near the thumb on the body of the guitar and this feels comfotable. However when trying to pick the high strings I cant rest my hand the same way since the thumb bumps into the strings. The different hand angle on the high strings feels really awkward to me and makes it difficult to get any steady alternate picking going. Do you guys find that you change your hand angle based on which string you play? Ideally I would like to keep my hand angle the same in a comfortable position but it doesn't seem possible when changing strings...

When playing with heavy distortion, I find it difficult to get a clean sound without any unwanted noise. I try to use the my palm of my right hand to mute the upper strings and my fretting hand to mute the lower strings but i still cant play cleanly. Especially when playing a long run there is a lot of noise coming from fretting and unfretting the note i want to play and moving my hand around in general. what are some tips you guys have for cleaning up the sound when playing with distortion? Is this just something that comes naturally after playing for a while with distortion?
