GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ How To Play Burn From Deep Purple

Posted by: Bluefinger Jan 26 2008, 10:38 AM

I'm currently fighting with Burn from Deep Purple which I have to learn for my band. I cannot play the major theme faster than 110 bpm. I think, I don't use the correct fingering.

So how would you play this part ?

E E E E Q. E E E E Q. Q
E||-------------------------|------------------------|
B||-------------------------|------------------------|
G||-----3S--2-----5---------|--3S--2-----5------3----|
D||-----3S--2-----5---------|--3S--2-----5------3----|
A||-------------------------|------------------------|
E||--3---------3---------3--|---------3--------------|

Thanks for your support.

The root notes (3s on the E string) with the index finger, 3s2 played with long and ring finger, the 5s played by barring with the pinky, the last 3s in the second bar with the index finger, third bar same as first, everything in the last bar with ring and long. That works fine for me at least.

The pinky for the 5th fret does the trick obviously. I never did it like this but I'll give it a try. Thanks a lot.

First hit third fret on the E string with your index finger

Index finger barré the G+D string over fret 3, slide that barré down to fret 2

Fret 3 on the E string now with your long finger instead of index finger

Fifth fret, either barre using your ring finger or use ring + long finger of one string each (using two finger for that fifth fret and you can apply a good vibrato)

This is how I felt was the easiset way when I tried it. Easy to play and easy to keep the speed up.

Use your thumb on low E string. wink.gif

or you can simplify and play it like this

E||-------------------------|------------------------|
B||-------------------------|------------------------|
G||--0--3p--2-0---5------0--|--3p--2--0--5------3----|
D||--0--3p--2-0---5------0--|--3p--2--0--5------3----|
A||-------------------------|------------------------|
E||-------------------------|------------------------|

Yes that's also possible but using long and ring finger seems to be more natural for me. At least it works best for me now. A lot of good proposals. Thanks.

Good advice. That's the emergency version. wink.gif
