I started becoming more and more desperate for getting the slightest of chances to spend a quiet evening while reading a book and enjoying a glass of wine, but somehow, I always have something left to do and I end up reading at 1 o clock at night.

So, now when some friend calls and asks me to go out, I kinda refuse without too much hesitation! I realized that as we grow we value time in a whole different way - I never understood why my mom and dad always wanted to go in the mountain house and stay there for a long time (when you are 13 years of age), as I always thought 'you get bored without friends' and I hadn't discovered the guitar yet at that age. But now, I would run away with my guitar and gear only, straight to the mountain house as fast as you can say 'bend'

How about you guys - How do you feel about the way you value time, as you get older?

Lately I've been in that rut where you are busy all the time, which I find very valuable but at the same time I also think in what you say, we should get some time to really just BE, don't think about any notes, chords, money, things, just be alone, or with someone,

I try to forget about everything when I go out and just enjoy that moment as if it was only it

I have been always been too selfish with my time but that's something that I'm trying to changes with the pass of years...

Selfish, I like working a lot, although I move deadlines, and can late, I like working all the time, I'm a workaholic. This requires me to spend lot of time with guitar and computer, but in the same time, I find a way to be free at some nights, go hang out a bit, travel a bit, just spend a day quietly in nature, on countryside, these things refresh the mind (and I bring my netbook always just in case )

Your values and how you apply your free time will change dramatically as you get older. Once you have children your time belongs to them, and the funny thing is you really don't mind it. As an example, I spend an hour a day sitting at the piano with my son going over his lessons with him and helping where I can (I don't play piano). In the end.. its all good because your biggest joys will come from seeing them happy and accomplish stuff.

I am looking forward to the day when I can rant with my kid over music and hopefully, he will choose an instrument and love music. But, that's not my choice is it maybe he will be a talented football player or a marvelous physician

I like this topic. I would say, I can be guilty of obsessing over details and tasks that nobody else worries about.. and as a result the evenings can draw in with no personal time. In the last year or so I've had to start making an actual decision to have some 'non working time' and it works. If you devote a lot of time to things, it can be a band, friends etc.. then you can decide to take some time for yourself (or yourself and partner etc) without any guilt.

All things need careful maintenance, including how we allocate our time

My priorities have certain;ly changed over the years....When I always used to have time for everybody and try and also give myself some time, whatever was left, when you work full time and now, have a son....you realise something has gotta go....It's not going to be my son, its not going to be my wife, and it's certainly not going to be my guitar....so friends take the hit now....if they are true friends they will understand.

A lil bit of "selfish" never hurts i think.

Everything in moderation....except for Guitar, that can be done to excess

Good topic. In my country and town, most people waste way too much time going on coffee, drinks, hanging out and so did I.

But I visited London a few months ago, and I was stunned to see how everything was more organized there, and how people wasted less time and worked more, while here people go out and talk about doing stuff, but never really do it.

So now I tend to refuse those time-wasting useless chit chat sessions and concentrate more on something better to devote my time to. It sure pays off! However that doesn't mean one should become completely asocial

I am very selfish with my time nowadays, but I just decided to do things my way in any area of life a few months ago. I seek advice from people who are wiser and more experienced than I am, who have achieved what I want to achieve or who simply live life their way...but I don't take unwanted advice from so-called friends who say "I wouldn't do this and that" anymore
Since I am new to the city I live in now and therefore don't have friends around, I can do whatever I like with my time at the moment, I wanna spend it wisely by exercising, playing guitar, reading and learning new languages.
And my job is kinda time consuming...just spent the week at a real estate fair in Munich, then visited my friends and family in my hometown Muenster (now that was some quality time!) and am just back in Rottweil again...with my bass and my two other guitars...now my flat looks really good!

Oh yes! That would be totally awesome imagine, having to deal with wonderous food delicacies prepared by your own kid well, maybe he will not make them as a kid, but still ...

I would like to say I'm selfish with my time, but I am not. I finishing my last year of my engineering degree, so there is a ton of homework to do. Not only that I like to spend time with my gf and the pup.

Honestly, I don't get much time at all to play guitar but I'm starting to make a bit more. I also found myself reading (Mustaine) sometimes until 2 am.

I value my time very much because I'm always short on it. I purposely avoid all unnecessary time loss whenever I can as I would much rather use that time for something meaningful. Being realistic with time management really helps me feel better.
