String Gauges...

(My fave brand are Dean Markley Blue Steels) If I have to, I'll drop down to a 10 gauge, but that's the minimum. I simply can't play 009s or 008s. With the 10s I feel better practicing bends, It seems more natural to me. With 9s I also bend way past. Most of that I imagine is my inexperience. For standard tuning, I use 9 hybrids on my Ibanez RG. I like the heavy sound of the deeper strings, but the ease in soloing. I was using regular 10s, until I started playing Daniel's "Wild Bends" lesson. Have you tried playing that lesson in standard with 10s? My calluses were tearing up, causing pain in my fingers. I decided to go back to hybrids (now coated). Now I can play much better. Yes, even Canon Rock, my most treasured song in my heart. I have much more control. Yes, it took some getting used to. I over-bended a lot at first, but I got used to where I had to bend, and now I am more precise. Okay, now for my would-be baritone guitar. It's actually my Jackson SLSMG Soloist. I use 14-68. It's not a true set because it's part of an 8 string set. I would like to switch to a true set though some day. I play in Drop A on this guitar. Used to, I tuned this to Standard. I would like to have 70 for the lowest string, but I can't fit any higher gauge into the tuning peg. And my Ibanez Gio, which my little brother mostly uses now, has 11 hybrids, I think. He tunes it to Drop B or Drop Bb. Too floppy for me. I like hammering away on my strings. One day, I want a 7-string and a baritone guitar.
