Evanescence Tourniquet Question!

This is a pretty easy song-EXCEPT for the verse rhythm- which is at 0:58 to 1:17 in the song. Kinda tricky. Its basic power chords- E-G-A I think-but I head palm mutes mixed with quick open notes and I am having a hard time distinguishing them apart-also Im questioning how many times to pick the notes. Up and down strokes? Just has me a little stumped-I can fudge through it-but I wanna nail it.

That is a cool song jaymz. I think this one should be played with all the down strokes. It sounds to me that open string strums are usually the "ending ones" which go before the pause in the groove. Maybe someone can hear and map out the exact pattern?

Bogdan is right, only downstrokes is the way to go to get that aggressive and accentuated sound. Check out this cover video in which you will see how the guy plays it with downstrokes and quit the palm when the chord heeds to sound opened:
