GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Type O Negative

Posted by: VinceG Jun 21 2008, 12:57 AM

I recently just started liking this band, mainly because of the song September Sun. I got a hold of Dead Again, and from what I can hear, I truly enjoy there sound. Very calm sound, even on the heavy parts, and have this melancholy feel to the lyrics and atmosphere of the song.

I used to listen to them many years ago, one of my favourite songs is "I dont want to be me"

If I remember correctly they call themselves "black metal" or something like that.

I like how Peter Steele plays a cello with a strap, Instead of standing it up lol, I think he does it in the video for Black No. 1

I saw them live 2 weeks ago.
I didn't know them so I didn't know what to think
They came out, started playing and the guitar would just randomly cut out. I thought it was part of the song because it happened so often. On top of that the vocals were really soft and barely comprehensible. I was thinking "holy crap! these guys are awful"

Well, then the song ended and the singer flipped out. He started yelling at the roadies and apologized to the crowd for the poor song because the guitar was screwed up and he wasn't getting his voice on the monitors. He then proceeded to introduce the band, and by the time he was done all the technical glitches were fixed. I think they knew they had to win back the crowd so they started their next song and blew us all away.

The singer constantly told quick jokes and really drew us in. He even paid tribute to the fallen metal gods with Halloween in Heaven. All in all it was a very memorable show.

Not really my kind of music although I do find them interesting.
I'll have to get a few albums once I get my more important purchases out of the way

That is a nice song. I generally don't care for much that I hear, actually I think some of the best songs out there are GMC lesson songs (sure, 1 minute or less, but in the words of Ned in Pushing Daisies, "a lot can happen in a minute".) But this doom song is nice. Who died in this band?

Really??!! This is so sad news!! Didn't know about it

REALLY great band!!!

Will they continue without Peter?

What! Pete passed away? Damn that's sad! sad.gif

I first heard him in Carnivore and I just loved "Bloody Kisses". "Christian Woman" and "Black No 1" are my favorites.

What a loss, he had such a great personality.
