Problem With Muting The String Underneath Enough At The First Frets

Hey Muris.

When i'm doing some exercises to develope finger independence with only using trills and with all the different finger combinations i have problem with keeping the string underneath the one i'm playing absolutely quiet. I mute the strings above the one im playing with my palm and the strings underneath with my first finger. But the problem is when I for instance do an exercise on the b-string my pull-off fingers sometimes touch the e-string which create noise, because you can't mute the e-string totally with the first finger so if you hit the e-string there will be a small amount of noise.

And now the question

Have you experienced the same kind of problem, what did you do about it and what would you suggest me to do?

It really annoys me and it would really help me to know what a prof like you would do. You seem to as clean as you can get

Muting With The Right Hand - Which Part?

Hey Muris.

Just a quick question.

Which part of the right hand do you use to mute the strings with to prevent noises?

1. The flesh that kinds of joins the little finger?

2. The heel of the hand?

3. Or the flesh which joins the thump?

And at last hy you use that part

It looks to me like you use the flesh that joins the little finger but i just want to be sure.

Question About Muting With The Fretting Hand

Hallo Pavel

First of all thank you for your lessons -

In order to get such a clean playing with the elimination of the noise - do you use your fretting hand to mute? I know you said in a legato lesson that you use your index finger to mute the string above the one you are playing and the strings under!?

But what i really wanted to know was if you then mute adjecent strings with the other three finger one fretting handi any situations. In your legato lesson you said to play with the fingertips so i guess wenn you play legato you just use the index finger to mute on the fretting hand?

I then saw your lesson on sweep picking and you described a sweep tutorial to someone in there but i didn't understand quit because there you described to use the fretting hand to mute. But do you use other fingers than your index to mute on the fretting hand when playing sweep? And in generally which situations do you then use your fretting hand fingers to mute? I mean the situations where you use the three other fingers except than the index finger which i know you use - if you use the three other fingers at all.

But then a saw a video where you played sweep picking, and there it might seem that you use all of the fingers to mute the adjecent strings?

I hope you understand, and can explain me in which situations you mute with the fretting hand, if you do, and be a bit more precise of why you are doing it.

I would really appreciate an answer to that, because it would help me alot to know you do (you are just amazing :-) )
