Played em both, both sound the same. There is a big price difference. So far, the only difference I have come up with... one is made in the USA and one is made in China. Am I missing anything? Cause they both sound great, and will both get the tone I am after (as far as I can tell).

The Valveking is a fine amp. If you can get the tone you want out of it, go for it Certainly save a bit for more gear over buying the 6505. The 6505 is known for one thing. It's got wads of gain. You can put a boost pedal (any tube screamer clone) in front of your valve king and get the same type of tone. The valve king is a bit more flexible as well in terms of different tones. Also, the valve king doesn't have the dreaded "shared eq" of the 6505.

So I have another question in regards to both amps. I am contemplating a few different options. I will almost certainly never utilize a half stack. I probably may never gig (but who knows). I was looking at the 6505 Mini head that can do 20w/5w/1w, and comes with a 2x12. I really like the idea of a 1 or 5 watt amp so I can actually practice with out blowing up my house. But I would also like it to be loud enough if I were going to gig.

Currently, I have a Line 6 Spider 4 thats 75 watts solid state, and a Fender Roc Pro 100w tube amp. I like my Line 6, sounds great, and I can play and adjust it alot. I can also keep the volume at a low level. I want to play on the Fender tube amp so I can get that great tube sound, but the volume goes from off... to BLOW UP THE NEIGHBORHOOD by dialing it up to 1 out of 10.

1. Whats going to be the difference between a 1x12 combo (60 watt), a 2x12 amp with a mini head (20/5/1watt) or just go all out with a 6505 half stack?

2. Say I do end up gigging, is 20 going to be enough? Will 60 get it done? I imagine I will be playing something like a bar if I were to play at all, with 150 people max.

3. For now, is there anyway for me to play my Fender amp (100w tube that is insanely loud at 1) at a quieter volume? Would a volume pedal do the trick? Is there anyway to adjust it and get the volume lower?

1.)Wattage and thus volume would be the main diff

2.)For gigging, you will be miced up typically, and you will have your own monitors mix hopefully at whatever venue/bar. But even if it's a gig using just drums and amps, that little peavey head is loud and can keep up with a drum kit.

3.)For your fender amp you can always use some sort of volume attenuator

For now, it sounds like you are mostly loooking at building a practice rig right? The 6505 is semi pointless in a home studio IMHO as it sounds best LOUD. The mini version is a much better call I'd say for many reasons. Portability, big tone in a smal box, cost, etc. The mini version is a killer little amp. Here is a full review

Todd, the 6505 MH was actually an option I was looking at. I liked the idea of turning it down to 1 watt and cranking it up at my house... rather than playing at the absolute lowest volume possible on my other amps. This will probably be the route I go.

It's a fine choice It's not as versatile as the valve king, but for high gain madness it's purpose built. This one especially makes a great practice amp. Killer tone without going deaf!

I was commenting on the full size 6505 as a bad idea for home use. The mini is great for a home studio. It's loud enough to keep up with a drum kit if need be, but quit enough to still not wake folks up on minimum wattage
