Could be that your laser lens is dirty. Take a foam stick , one end little wet with water, gently go over the lens of the drive, adn with another dry end again remove any dust or humidity. Then try, and if doesn't work it is probably a drive failure.

Well CD/DVD drives tend to get dirty and just wear out..Maybe you'll have to visit the shop

Once you've cleaned the lens it might be worth running a checksum as well Mark. Nothing worse then burning cds only to find that the data is corrupted/unreadable due to checksum errors.
If the cd is knackered then like Bogdan says - time for a new one! It still doesnt work. So I think I'm gona take it back to the PC store  Mark. If its under the warranty thats the best option for sure..Maybe some cables got disconnected or something  I don't believe its a software issue though.. If it's new then its a defintely a hardware failure. Take it to shop, they should fix it no problem!
