Student Instructor Lesson Competition

It gives me great pleasure to announce this months competition - the Student Instructor Competition!

I hope some or all of you have noticed the great work that Smells has been doing managing the newly launched http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showforum=22, also check out our new http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Portal:Student_Instructors in the Wiki!

We want to knock this into orbit with a massive influx of new lessons! Becoming a Student Instructor is easy - everyone has a lesson in them, something they can teach to someone else. Here is your opportunity to get some of your riffs out to GMC and help others! As we move forward, we want to feature these SI lessons on the GMC front page. so why not help GMC with this and win a prize at the same time!

If you have been thinking about making a lesson already, now is the perfect time to do it - after all, there are some fabulous prizes to be had, all with an emphasis on improving your recording!

1st Prize

An M-Audio Fasttrack USB Recording Interface

Start down the road of professional recordings! With this recording interface you can make high quality guitar and vocal recordings. You can use this with any recording program, and it is even compatible with the industry standard, Pro Tools!

2nd Prize

A Sure SM58 Microphone

A classic microphone for both live and recording work - extremely versatile, great quality!

3rd Prize

Senheiser eH150 Headphones

A high quality closed back design (very important for recording)

The competition will work as follows:

1. All new SI lessons posted within the qualifying period will be automatically entered into the competition.
2. We'll start a thread for people to announce their entries and for discussion
3. The standards for SI lessons wil remain as they have been, and we will treat all competition entries exactly the same as we have with lessons until now - we now approve lessons before they are launched to ensure some minimum quality standards, and this will not change, however, we never reject lessons outright and will always make suggestions for improvement. So if a lesson isn't accepted first time around, we will work with you to get it accepted. For guidelines and a sample leesson check the http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showforum=22.
4. Entries will be closed on Monday 28th of April 5th of May, so you have 4 weeks guys!
5. Judging will be by a GMC vote - the members get to pick which lesson they liked the most
6. We will accept text, audio or video lessons, but they will not have separate categories
7. All prizes are final, no alternatives cash or otherwise will be offered.

Thats about it - let the lessons roll in!

Oops, sorry, didn't see that one. tongue.gif

Also, will a video entry have more of a chance than winning than say just a written lesson?

Could a written lesson or audio lesson win?

Thanks Andrew! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Apr 8 2008, 11:02 PM

No problem - there are no separate categories, so written will be judged against audio will be judged against video. How they will stack up I don't know, since GMCers will be the judge smile.gif

My guess would be that a brilliant written lesson would beat a mediocre video or audio lesson, but an awesome video lesson would beat all the others.

I do think it'll be hard to win with a written lesson from a video lesson. Maybe, very maybe I'll do an ultimate beginner lesson, how's that? just pickholding and some easy chords.

You upload them on the Student Instructor board here http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showforum=22

look at some of the lessons on there to give you an idea of format smile.gif

What format is it?

You might have to convert to make it smaller

Posted by: Zizi Top Apr 20 2008, 10:35 AM

it's .avi

Posted by: Smells Apr 20 2008, 11:58 AM

QUOTE (Zizi Top @ Apr 20 2008, 10:35 AM) *

blink.gif 300mb

I think you need to convert it to a different format, remember people have to d/load your video off the forum, if its 300mb long then they possibly might not bother

Posted by: Zizi Top Apr 20 2008, 12:01 PM

do you have any format you recommand ?
I think the problem is that my video is too long :s

Posted by: Smells Apr 20 2008, 12:50 PM

no I dont think its too long, I tried .avi and had the same problem with 1 minute video, around 200-250mb

I export mine to mpeg at the moment, prob not the best format to export to but keeps the files much smaller, vids approx a minute long come out at around 12mb then

Posted by: Zizi Top Apr 20 2008, 02:50 PM

i think i resolved my problem, thanx anyway smile.gif
i may upload my vid tonight .. smile.gif
tchus
