GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Engl Souvereign 2x12" Combo E 368

Posted by: Muris Varajic Jul 21 2008, 06:48 PM

Hi crew.

I'm thinking of getting this combo,
feats are top notch to say the least.
Anybody has experience with this amp?

Thanks smile.gif

Disregarding your question for a second.

What is your reason for wanting another amp?

Posted by: audiopaal Jul 21 2008, 09:25 PM

Nope, but I want one too biggrin.gif

Tjchep: Why not? The more amps the better laugh.gif

I actually want to have my whole gear more simple,
no racks, tons of cables and stuff. smile.gif

I always wanted a rack, but to many cables and stuff, guitar plugged into a combo is best sound. even a combo with a few pedals on the ground is much easier to use. smile.gif.

How much do these ENGL's go for anyways? $2000?

And easier to carry wink.gif

It sure is a monster amp, if that doesn't blow away the audience, I don't know what can biggrin.gif

On the otherside - most 2x12 all-tubers are between 40-50Kg, and that is a lot. As I can see, this amp doesn't really have side handles, so how will you carry it unsure.gif

I'd say between 30-40 kg in general, but sure, it's still heavy. I don't know about this specific ENGL though since I never even saw one.

I think it's a great amp, I'm just pointing out the fact that it can be only carried by the upper handle, and that means only one person can carry it. If the amp is ~40Kg, then that can be a very big load.

Posted by: rockztar Jul 22 2008, 12:06 PM

cant he put a pair of weels under the amp?

Yes, that's true and having to move a 2x12 is hard labor. My bandmate has one (a Marshall) and my half stack is more portable than his 2x12.

That's one possibility.
EDIT: Even if the amp isn't pre drilled for a set of wheels it's always doable.

Posted by: Muris Varajic Jul 22 2008, 12:13 PM

It's actually 32kg and isn't that much,
compared with Egnater Tourmaster (another option I was considering)
same thing 2x12,all tube,4 channels but weights 42kg huh.gif

Plus you can always add extra handles and wheels,
no problem at all. smile.gif

Posted by: ZakkWylde Jul 22 2008, 12:22 PM

As long as it's lighter than a keg of beer (62kg) it's doable happy.gif

You're right, drilling is always an option. Although with that monster amp, I would gladly carry it around even on foot, just for the sake of that sweet sound smile.gif

Just like that. smile.gif

Best thing is it has full Midi Support installed
so it's 127 sounds under your foot,
not just 4 using 4 channels.

And I did drilling on an old Peavey, sold it tho,
2 handles on the sides and wheels, piece of cake
and saves you lot of troubles. smile.gif

that one seems to have wheels underneath, so transportation should be easier.

My guess is that this guy added wheels by himself,
I don't see anything about wheels in manual or
at pics from Engl website but that's not problem at all,
I'm quite interested to hear opinions on sound and flexibility
if someone has tried it. smile.gif
