Welcome to SHRED BOOTCAMP! I'll be your Drill Instructor! And I do mean DRILL! As in a large power tool used in slasher films and Paul Gilbert concerts. Here is were you EARN THE LIVING DEATH out of your fingers and break through any speed bumps/barriers to become a MASTER CHIEF of Shred!

MISSON #1

THE MISSION

1.)Your mission is to go all the way back to the very start. The base of the mountain.

LESSON 1. http://bitly.com/gmclesson1

Which you will play SLOWWWWWWLLY, very SLOWWWLLLLYYYY until you master it at a crawl (As You'll Do With Each Mission, and focus on left hand FORM! Make it SUPER PERFECT!). Speed it up bit by bit until you feel your ready to take it to WAR (Any speed, it's up to you) Shoot a video of you playing the bit along with a METRONOME or DRUM click in the background so that I can hear if your on beat or not, and embed it as a post it as a reply to this post. I'll then offer a constructive and brutally honest critique.

THE AFTERMATH

Upon nailing the crap out of lesson one, and playing it a clean as a freshly waxed floor, you will be given your first insignia of Rank in BOOTCAMP!

After that proceed to MISSION #2. Here is a link to all of the missions. All 400+ of them.

Here is the link to your own PRIVATE HOUSE OF PAIN!...Er I mean.. SHRED!

Congrats on your Mission crappylicks! However, you didn't yet get to the spot where I can debrief it. Part of this whole thing is about learning the process. An important part of the process is uploading vids to youtube and learning to embed them here @ GMC. If you don't have a youtube account, go make one smile.gif It's free. If you do have one, upload this vid and then embed it here. Just click on INSERT SPECIAL ITEM then YOUTUBE VID and follow the instructions.

This will start you on the path of documenting your progress which is an important part of bootcamp. You can leave the videos UNLISTED on youtube if you want. That way, folks cant' see it unless they have the link. Just dont' leave it on private or we won't be able to see it in this thread.

Onward!!

Progress!!!! Congrats on the embed!! Take another look at the tablature for LESSON 1. You have the general idea, but look a bit closer at that tablature and then watch your vid again. Once more in to the breach!!

How many times are you striking the string at each position soldier? I can hear the metronome but it's very hard to hear your guitar. Don't be discouraged. Working these bits out is the entire point of the first few missions. Once you get your process in place, everything will run smooth smile.gif Here is the tablature for lesson 1. How many strikes are you seeing per note?

CONGRATS!!! Welcome to your first Mission Debrief Soldier!! You fought through the problems and made it!!!! Let's debrief.

MEDALS OF HONOR

*SYNCH: Very solid right/left hand synch.

*AGGRESSION: Notice the aggressive style!! Extra points smile.gif

*PACING: Steady and even, as it should be!!!

Soldier, you stuck it out and now you have your first Mission under your belt!!! These will improve as we go. One thing for next time, try to make your guitar a bit louder. Practice amp, running in to your daw and using amplitude free, whatever. Take your pick. Right now I can barely hear your guitar above the metronome. Hopefully we can get a bit better as we go! for now ..

You just....

LEVELED UP!!!!!!

OK so I have tried to use Repaer+Amplutube and the click track option in Reaper. I have never used this or have any experience with video editing so this is a little rough. I will practice with Reaper until I get it squared away.
Now I am going to go pound some bourbon and finish it off with Brew and Lobster rolls.

PROGRESS!!! I can hear the guitar better! I have a couple of tips on tone. Congrats on using AMPLITUDE and REAPER! This is a great way to record and is the start of your home studio. You can use this combo to join in the COLLABS here at GMC and join in my Sunday shred challenge. Just down load the track for the collab/challenge and drag/drop it on to a new track in reaper, then hit record and you will record your track in a separate track and while you can still hear the backing. Then you have started on your way to collabing. You can export your track only for the collab or just record the entire thing with a video camera for my sunday challenge. CONGRATS! On to the Mission. LET"S DEBRIEF!!!

MEDALS OF HONOR
*SYNCH:
Very tight right/left hand synch. Nice!

*MUTE: No extra string noise, keep that up!!!

*PICKING: Clean and strong picking, keep that up too!!

In short you just LEVELED UP!!!

Soldier you are getting better at making videos each time you do one!!! Being able to make vids is key to your success not only here @ GMC, but as a player in general. Youtube is where folks get discovered these days. Ola Englund is a great example. As he got better at playing, his vids got better. Now he's a pro.

The only thing wrong in this video is the fact that I can barely hear your guitar at all. I can see both hands, the lighting is good, I can hear the metronome just fine, so top marks on all that! But I do need to be able to hear you as well. You are actually being drowned out by the metronome here. Please let me know if you have any questions on production/making vids that I can help with. Also, it looks like your hands are playing this perfectly. I just need to be able to hear it clearly so I can be sure and give you your next badge before heading you off to MISSION 4!!!

Once more in to the breach on lesson 3 soldier! Turn your playing volume up a bit, and the metronome down a bit and BAM!
