Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

I think you have made great progress since your last version of this. I can tell that you have made improvements in your vibrato and synch. One issue I see happening over and over is concerning vibrato. For example, when you make a bend up, you are doing a pretty goo job of bending to pitch, but you are not using vibrato at the top of the bend as is done in the demo video. When he makes a bend, at the top pitch of the bend, he adds vibrato which makes the entire thing more dynamic. Also, when you do some of your single finger vibrato, it's very shallow and tepid. Goo vibrato should "swell" up from subtle to wide and back down. Your single finger vibrato is a very quick up and down without much depth that doesn't swell. This is something that takes quite a bit of work to get right. Vibrato is an art. IMHO it's the one thing that really takes one's playing to the next level. It's a very important aspect of playing and it just takes lots of repetition and time to get right. Check out my vibrato in this vid. At about 12 seconds in, I do a single finger vibrato. Notice how I wag the hand around the hand and get a nice wide vibrato. I focused on vibrato in this solo. It's a good example of using deep/wide vibrato technique. It's actually too wide for most of this REC but it' a good example of vibrato technique. As for this rec, solid 6 from me.

Hi Tim!

It's interesting to hear how much your playing has evolved. This new take has much more energy, dynamics, and your vibrato is more consistent now. I also think that your tone fits better with these licks.

I checked your previous take and there is a long list of elements in my feedback. I think that all those elements show improvements here.

One thing that I've noted here is that your legato (faster licks) tends to sound weak, or to have timing issues. I would add any legato lesson into your daily practice, or maybe you can also isolate those licks from this lessons to polish them.

I think that Todd comment about pitch is very important too. Sometimes there is an excess of energy in your bending, and that can be the reason why your bend down presents that problem.

I'll give you a 7 because this is getting closer.

Very nice!

You convey great energy here, and your picking attack in combination with your sweet responsive tone is super musical.

Your vibrato is a bit inconsistent, but again it conveys energy so it still lands you on the plus side. What seems to happen is that your downward vibrato which uses a leverage point against the guitar neck is sometimes wide and pretty decent sounding. However the upward vibrato uses the wrong technique imo: you rely on finger movement here, whereas it should be the whole arm that gives you strength for a nice and wide vibrato.

The fast runs drag your grade down here. I think the problem is that both with your vibrato and faster runs you don't allow yourself the time to practice them at a super slow tempo where you can be totally relaxed - and make sure you don't miss anything.

This is the reason why you haven't really fixed the hand syncing issues in the fast runs since 2016. It's not possible to do it at a high tempo when you have already consolidated a bad habit.

Keep it up mate, you get a 6 from me!

Hey Tim!

Nice to see you back at regular workouts and rec takes posting smile.gif

Let's get into some details of what you could fix.
There are some differences in teh way you play around 0:12. You changed the rhytmical structure of few notes - especially the one the has been played straight and then tehre's a bend to the same pitch from different fret.

In the lick around 0:15 Emir uses clear separation between notes, which means he touches the strings to mute them between picking. You did not executed it.

For my taste this kind of delay makes more mess than good ambience. I would sugegst to use rather a warm and more loosen analog delay simulation than a digital delay (which works best when you expect exact time response from your delay and it's a part of arrangment.

As general you havesome problems with middle notes of more complex runs and you tend to overdo the bends (a little too high)

Faster runs around 0:23 definitely need some more clearance. Some notes between are missing. This is still your weak point and I think there is some solid work need to break through it.
