GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Vinyl

Posted by: jer Oct 15 2008, 06:14 PM

I've noticed that some new releases by bands I like are available in "120 gram Vinyl", or something similar.

Is anyone here listening to vinyl?

Are these heavier albums better sounding?

i own vinyls but i don't listen to them all that much. I have The Wall on vinyl and i have Ashes of the Wake and Sacrament by Lamb of God on Vinyl ( which are probably these heavier vinyls of which you speak.) I find with vinyl you get a nicer sound when listening to stuff like pink floyd. or other older rock bands (king crimson is another one i own) But new aged music just doesn't get the kick needed IMHO. My example will be bass. You don't get the same bass out of a record player that you do from a 14 inch sub hooked up to a 1000watt home player smile.gif

I own a lot of vinyls but like Smikey i dont listen to them anymore as everything is so computer based now and PC has become the only source of my entertainment. Well if you think technically, vinyls wont give you better sound quality as everything is digital now and gives you HD quality audio/video output. But some people personally prefer the sound of vinyls. I'd say its just a matter of personal opinion. I personally like to listen to Pink Floyd on vinyl, I love that poping effect from that old LP.

Are you plugging the record player to that sub as well?
