You know that brand that you have had most pieces of gear from, that rarely let you down, that you still use, and would use it again? smile.gif

What is your favorite brand, the brand that you like to use, and would always like to find on stage? smile.gif

I haven't had enough experience with gear to say much. I started out with Ibanez, but I like all sorts of other guitars. Really, if it looks cool, plays good, and sounds and feels right I'll play it.

I don't really have a gear preference, but it seems I always end up with Peavey and Boss gear. Peavey tube amps sound great, are reliable and affordable. Boss pedals sound good and are almost indestructible. There are better sounding pedals out there, but on the used market you won't find a brand as plentiful as Boss. The Morley Bad Horsie 2 is a fantastic pedal and super reliable. If it is ever lost I would definitely replace it.

As far as guitars, I'm quite happy with the Fender HWY 1 Strat and LTD H-1001 I got now, although I would like to install a humbucker in the Strat. If I do that it will probably be the only guitar I would ever need on stage biggrin.gif

I would say I've had good experience with Dunlop picks, Peavey amps which are great, as Mudbone rightly said, & Marshall (although their build quality could be better). smile.gif

But yeah, I'd definitely give my shout on the quality and reliablity of Peavey smile.gif

Since you asked favorite, that means name one. But I think in categories:

Guitar: Gibson.

Overdrives/Distortion: Fulltone

Other Devices: Eventide. They are expensive, but if you think anybody else is even in their league, you are kidding yourself.

Picks: V-Picks

Amps: I think a lot of them are just fine, so long as tube.

Strings: Just started with Xlixir. I am not sure yet. It will either be those, or I will end up saying I don't care so much about brand.

Probably a bit different as my needs aren't the same as most of you guys. Anyway my fav gear brand is:

Lavry - we've been using their ADCs and DACs for years as pro interfaces and never had a problem. Not cheap (about 2k USD for a 2 channel DAC) but wonderful build quality and sonic quality.

The majority of the pro end stuff we use performs well (including an Eventide and I'd +1 fkalich's comments) - - and we have some hardware that goes back many years.

To some extent at the pro end we pay for both sonic quality and build reliability as we can't afford studio downtime.
If a piece of hardware goes down we end up having to rent temporarily whilst it's repaired and pro end rentals and repairs are expensive and annoying. (Last unit that we had to do do this with was an EQ - cost us 1000USD for the repairs etc and another 800USD rental but still cheaper than the 7000USD for a new piece.)

A little OT but I do know one pro live sound engineer who uses cheap ADCs. His argument is that instead of having 1 reliable pro ADC for 4000 USD that he can have 10 unreliable 400 USD units. He assumes that at least 1 of those ten will work fine. When it goes wrong he just tries the other 9 until he finds an ok one. He reckons he might have to junk 3 or 4 but that's only a total cost of 2400USD and he still has 4 or 5 units spare...

I guess with no limits I`d buy a higher end Marshall everytime.

I do have a tendency when looking at guitars to browse through the Jackson site, again though I`d only really be interested in their higher end stuff.

so probably Marshall & Jackson as number ones on the hitlists smile.gif

Guitars: I like all kinds, but tend to play my Gibson Les Paul the most. If I ever buy another LP, it will be a another Gibson.

Amps: Not really picky about amps, though I agree with Fkalich it has to be a tube amp wink.gif

Picks: Dunlop Jazz 3's

Effects: Started out playing on a Digitech RP 500, and to be honest never really tried anything else. So I guess it qualifies as a favorite for now!

Straps: After trying several different methods of locking straps, I found that Planet Lock straps by Planet Wave tend to work the best for me. They work with your existing strap buttons, and fit everything from my Les Paul to my Casino.

Cables: I use Peavey the most.

How about this. FAV GEAR BRAND:

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS

Fave Gear

GUITAR RIG 4.

It has been a big shift for me, but I honestly now prefer the custom patches I"ve created in Guitar Rig to my physical rig. I never thought I'd see the day. I started using Guitar Rig for teaching lessons in video chat as it's a great way get clean signal in to my compute for sharing over video stream. Then one day, instead of plugging my amp up after a lesson, I just started tweaking the patch in guitar rig. Next thing you know, I hadn't used my amp in several days. Now I reach for guitar rig first.

It's like having a great guitar amp in a great soundproof room, with great micrphones on it, just sitting there and waiting. Then whenever you want, you just plug in and hear the great sounding amp through your studio monitors. Just like you would in a standard studio. That's maybe what's so great about it. In many home studio setups, the guitar amp is actually in the same room with the audio monitors doing the mixing. AT which point, you get signal bleed, frequency cancellation, noise, etc. So boing able to keep the amp inside the computer is handy.

I"m attaching the patch I used in today's Video Chat Lesson. If you have Guitar Rig 4, fire it up and let me know what you think smile.gif

being left handed ,you take what you can get (as far as guitars go)
but , when I would show up to do a show and a certain sound guy named scotty ,was runin sound,it did not matter what I was playin with
I new scotty would tweak it, the sound on stage would be there, and our wifes always said the sound was killer
so in short ,a sound guy you can trust
