Hey GMC, i am having odd problems with my wrists. Ever since i started school a week ago, Ive noticed that my abilities have decreased dramatically when playing the guitar. Now it is hard to play for 5 minutes without it hurting. I didnt hurt it because I didnt really do any other activities lately. It is starting to swell up and now I hear a popping sound in my forearm whenever I try to play (left wrist and arm). Ive seen forums like these before and hear the the answers of to stop playing and see a doctor and learn theory, (which I have, almost done with most chords and in only two days). But has neone else had this problem where they have a popping sound in their forearm and a swollen wrist from palying guitar? How could I have gotten this? Any suggestions?

please help!! sad.gif

Unfortunately I think the best advice would be to give it a break for a few days. Usually swelling occurs when your muscles have been subjected to trauma, and will most likely go away if you rest it for a few days. It is odd that you can't recollect anything that may have caused the harm, which is why I'd have to again agree with what you've read elsewhere and suggest seeing a doctor if it continues without progress!

Good luck, hope it gets better.

I know it's boring to say this but...you have to take a break. Try to rest for three days, put some ice where you feel more pain and after asking a doctor, put some ointment. Then start to play again with some easy and soft exercises, if you start to feeling pain, stop and go to a doctor. Good luck!

Do you practice a lot? What other activities do you do except playing that involves using your fingers. Perhaps answer is there.

Nevertheless, it is good to check with a doctor man, better safe than sorry.

WOW!! Go see a doctor as soon as possible. Swollen wrist and popping sounds in your forearm sounds very serious man.
Leave the guitar for a little while too (as hard as that may be). Continiung to play with that kind of injury will only make it worse. In some cases may bring your playing to an end forever, harsh but true. When my wrist bugged out i couldn't play for 3 weeks any kind of activity in that period would of meant playing would be over for good. These kinds of things are very serious.

Me too man, and you better be sure about it. Just take some time off practicing and pay a visit to a doctor, see what he has to say.

Oh man swell and popping sound don't sound good....We can't really help you on this one, so tell your parents and go to see a doctor for it as soon as possible...Don't delay it if problem persists and doesn't start diminishing..I hope its nothing serious...

well good news and bad news GMC. I went to the doctors and he gave me some good info. He thinks its either Tendonitis or Carpel Tunnel. If its carpel tunnel, i may need surgery on my wrist. I am taking something right now for the swelling but I cannot play for 4-6 weeks!!!! AHHHH! i dont know wut to do during the time and neone having somesuggestions because i dont know how do study theory without having a guitar in my hands. ?
