Hi guys,
Its very frustrating for me to see that i'm not able to sit down and finish even one song completely!
So i'm looking to you guys for advice. What songs do you suggest I should learn? Preferably around level 5 difficulty.
Thanks in advance smile.gif

Well, you have to figure out WHY you are not able to finish one song. It seems to be a motivational problem, so I suggest you pick your favourite song or a song of your favourite band, this always works as a motivation booster for me.
I don't know your musical taste, but Master of Puppets and Fear of the dark are cool level 5 songs plus you got lessons for these here at GMC wink.gif

Any song that you really really like. What kind of music do you like? Try to choose one from your preferences, rather than skill level. smile.gif

I like metal, rock, blues and anything related.I'm not sure what the exact reason is.Before I complete a song,i'll get distracted by some other song and this process repeats.

That is not uncommon, and not necessarily bad smile.gif
Did you try learning it by ear? It will give greater reward, and thus more motivational smile.gif

But you need to find a song that you really really like, and really really wants to learn. Then you should be able to learn the whole thing

I had the same problem. I think the song to learn should be easy for you and it should be the song you really like. I've learned my first song this way. smile.gif

Yes, that's the way I've done it too. Choose songs that move you and excite you. Motivation comes from that, skills come later

Your problem is either in not liking what you choose enough to motivate you to play it (self motivation), or you simply lack self discipline.

If it's the first, choose something that's on your difficulty level (be realistic here, if you choose too high or too low, you'll get demotivated) and make sure you actually love and want to play it!

If the second, it takes some practice to force yourself to just carry on, but this is an important life skill.

Blunt, yes, but I don't like to sugarcoat these things tongue.gif Get to it!

If it takes you too long to learn a song it is probably beyond your current playing capability. If you can't play any easy songs then you certainly can't play any moderately difficult songs properly. I have to concur with the other guys, it seems like a motivational and discipline problem. Motivation and discipline are a state of mind, and that is something that has to come from within.

Learn an easy song and play along with it, do that until you can do it with out putting in much effort. Then progress to something thats slightly more difficult, and so on and so forth. If you were a bodybuilder that can bench press 250 lbs but want to bench 300 lbs, in order to get to 300 lbs, you would have to go through all the increments in between. It won't happen over night, and playing guitar is no different.

Theres nothing wrong with learning easy songs, a good portion of the most famous songs really aren't that difficult, relatively speaking. If you look at the big picture, its better to know 20 easy songs than one difficult song. Learning 20 easy songs with get you into a band and expose you to other musicians, and is a great confidence booster, while learning one difficult song will impress no one but yourself. Don't get me wrong, impressing yourself is definitely important, but having a wider tonal palette, in my opinion, is better than having one strong singular skill.

So, as far as songs to learn, try learning some Godsmack songs, they're fun and not to difficult. The solos aren't technically difficult but the fact that they're so erratic makes them a little difficult to learn. But don't worry about the solos, thats just the spice, the rhythm is the meat and potatoes biggrin.gif

Also, very important, start a practice log and schedule a song you want to learn into it. Practice it everyday and eventually you will get it.

There could be several reasons for this, or mix of these reasons:

1. It could be that the songs you choose are a bit difficult. In this case try to learn extra easy song that you can sing.

2. It could be that the songs you choose you don't like that much. In this case, try to learn some song that you really really like and you can relate to.

3. It could be that this is just your mind works. I know for me it is hard to learn the whole song because I sometimes get distracted by something else. Could be in your nature to be distracted. If this is the case, try to set firm goals, make a plan on a daily basis and stick with it until you accomplish your plan goal.
