Technical Death Metal "the hidden side of its genre, having more in common with prog-rock and jazz fusion than with the mechanistic, Satan-obsessed grinding that's the music's dominant public image." ( Wikipedia) First check out Lian's new lesson, "Lian's Breaking The Chains Of Lies", and then post a reply to today's topic.

Now that you've checked out Lian's lesson, are those elements of Jazz and prog-rock apparent to you in this particular style?

I would more Prog rock than jazz. As there is use of different rhythmic variations. Harmonically in jazz typically there's a lot more counterpoint and different voicings
