You said the chord was R b3 b5 b7
However, this would be an Rm7/b5 chord.

Did you mean R m3 dim5 dim7?

Not being nosy, just trying to understand smile.gif

Depends how you count it,
and there are different approaches to this matter tho.
Main thing it to know what to play when someone ask you for a chord,
it doesn't matter a lot the way you're explaining it to yourself,
as long as it's working of course. smile.gif

For me it;s easy to go like this when it comes to 7th,
minor 7th,major 7th,b7 would be diminished and #7 is sharp one of course.
But this is just when talking about pure intervals,
inside of chords it doesn't look like this,b7 means minor 7th etc. smile.gif

If i may add something to this, if it's not too late ? wink.gif

When i use Dim7 in notation like this i call it R b3 b5 bb7 so it's devided up in minor thirds all the way up the chord
But this is if you use Dim7 also showen as DimO in notation, it means the whole chord is dimished, if you use it as m7b5 its like you said R b3 b5 b7.

Hope this helps,

Alex

The classification is: major 7th (5 tones and 1/2)
minor 7th or b7 (5 tones)
diminished 7th (dim7), °7 or bb7 (4 tones and 1/2)
major 6th (4 tones and 1/2)

The last two are the same note but it's a different classification depending on the name of the notes

C-Bbb = diminished 7th
C-A = major 6th

I hope that clarifies a bit.
