okay, I hope this works
This is an strict alternate picking exercise that I have recently been using and I believe practiced right it will get everyone to the next level.
you can start with an up or down stroke ,but once you have started make sure that you don't cheat when changing strings, but always continue perfect alternating - this will have you practicing both inside and outside picking
another problem I have ran into is in triplets is that so many people ( I think) end up playing 3 notes on 1 string and having a slight pause when skipping strings( having a note to follow I think will help cure this) along with having 3 notes per string but having 4 notes per beat you will have to loose the accent when changing strings
You will need to use a four count, and learn to tap your foot every 4 note with the beat to cure yourself of any timing issues( I only speak from experience)
Having a metronome that you can change to set your pace is critical, so if you don't have gtr pro you can download
http://free-tux-download.com/tuxguitar/
strive for perfection not speed, however do push yourself but always end your routine as perfect as possible
hope this helps you as much as it is helping me. later

almost forgot, you will need to highlight player to get the metronome to drop down ( so you can turn it on)

Thank You !

forgot to mention , if using tux- in the far right at the top , there is a picture of a clock , this can change the tempo slower or faster

Very spiff! Can you shoot a quick youtube video of your playing/talking about this lick?
