anyone know a great cheap tube amp? i'd love a used Twin Verb but they are hard to find for $700 that often. only every month or so. soooo any ideas?

ValveKings sound great, are very loud, and they are cheap. I have one, and it's great. If want even cheaper, Blackheart amps are great, my friend has one and it rocks.

I've heard B-52 amps are good, but have no expirience with them. Bugera amps are cheap and sound good aswell, but I would stay away from them if I were you, they are poorly made, and break quickly, the longest I've ever heard someone having one without problems is one month.

55W rules out all amps with two EL34's but I think 50W should be ok to.
If you're willing to go a tad lower I can vouch for the Peavey Classic 30. 30W and a great machine for blues and rock. It won't do the heavier stuff but since you eyed a Fender Twin I guess that's not what you're after.
The Peavey has four EL84 tubes which have a really nice sound to to them. There's a 50W model of it but I'm not sure it fitds the budget.
A brand that you'll find on the other side of the puddle, your side I guess, I Traynor. Their model names are silly really so I can't suggest on (can't recall them) but check out a combo with EL34's for a british sound and one with 6L6 for american sound.

nah 50w would be ok. ill probly check out the peavey classic 30

i'd have to say the valve king by peavey I have got the head and it can do both the brit and american sounds cos it has a class "a" and an "ab" texture control on the back. The clean channel is actually quite good bright and crisp, and on the dirty channel it has a volume boost as well as gain boost which are selectable so you can go from crunchy rhythm to dirty lead really easily. A very versatile amp and also damn cheap

It depends what kind of sound do you prefer, but with a 700 buckies the choice is sure limited. I would go for used DSL401 as I love Marshall, but Valveking or maybe some cheaper smaller combo can be found within Line6 or even Randall. Check on eBay

For 400-450 dollars you can get a fender hot rod amp on ebay all day long. 40 watts and it it damn loud, probably too loud for the house. I had one for a bit and dropped down to a fender blues junior...

I don't know about the other amps, but I have a valveking and I love it, ever since I bought it a year ago I haven't even looked at other amps, I'm that happy with it. So, I recommend it, it's really cheap and good, but I have no experience with any of the other amps mentioned here.

check out Orange Tiny Terror. 15w class A tube amp. I heard its pretty loud. Gig worthy equipment. Oh yea the head cost $550. Kinda pricey for 15w but I think its well worth it since its freaking Orange man! Great brittish tone.

Also be aware that 55W is only slighlty louder form 40W. You will in most situations not even notice the difference in loudness!

My mate thought that 100W was going to be double as loud as a 50W amp lol. Which clearly isn't the case. There is a noticeable difference but it isn't double the volume. Nowhere near. 55W compared to 40W is a very small difference and one that is barely noticeable. For all indoor gigs that my band play 50W is EASILY enough. If you are playing outdoor gigs then you may need 100W if you are playing in a huge field. 30W-50W for an indoor gig is plenty.
Remember valve amps sound best when cranked up. They need to be at breaking point to get the best out of them.

I played Laney LC15 few days ago,
pretty kind a loud!
One channel,I'm not sure of price tho,
shouldn't be expensive a lot
