Hi everyone, I've been here about a month now, and have been trying to apply some new techniques to my playing.

I saw someone (Caelumamittendum?) mention how they used Guitar Pro as a compostion tool and thought I'd give it a go.
I was surprised at how quick and easy it was so consider me a convert, it's great as a practice tool and gratifying to see your solos written out. That's another 70 euros to spend once the trial runs out, GMC can be expensive!

Anyway, I've uploaded the track I'm trying to apply the lessons to here https://soundcloud.com/user-698852492/agrar...=social_sharing

I've attached the GP files and a PDF too of the guitar solo. That's what I aim to play, but might not match exactly. It's pretty rough and probably a bit sloppy.

So, based on the solo, what lessons would people recommend?

It's a Dm thing, and I switch between natural and harmonic minor and throw in a few chord tones. I'm trying to move away from my usual fallback of rhythmic blues/chromatic and trying to add in more scale runs. Sweeping and tapping isn't really my bag, though.

So far I've taken a few ideas from Dark Blues Rock licks (https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Dark-Blues-Rock-Licks/)
andsome from Guido's 30 phrases (https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Guidorist-My-Top-30-Phrases/)

Is there a lesson that covers a few of the 'rock cliches', like that fast 17,12,15,12,14,12 pull off sequence you often see (like in Battery by Metallica)

Hi everyone, I joined the site last week.

I've been playing guitar since I was a teenager and got into metal, so 30 years now!

My tastes changed a bit, I play some acoustic early blues stuff, slide guitar, so big John Fahey fan. I also play a little bit of banjo and fiddle. Violin is a very humbling instrument sad.gif

On the electric side my favourite guitar player is Marc Ribot, particular his work with Tom Waits and his Cuban stuff. Also love Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart, and Ross the Boss' playing on the early Manowar albums.

I record my own tunes for my own entertainment, solo acoustic, or little instrumental things somewhere between Marc Ribot, Dead Combo and Can.

I'd like to improve my timing and technique, and learn to apply scales a bit better.

Things I've noticed from looking at the Manowar and Iron Maiden lessons - I've never really played six notes to the beat before, or done much of that 3 note motif repeated over eighth notes so it shifts on each beat, if you know what I mean, like at start of Hey Joe! It's hurting my brain trying to count it, but I'm getting used to it and think it's something I need to do more of.

Hi everyone, it seems like a friendly community!
