Okay.
So for the past 3 years. All I've really written was a metal song. And mainly only used keys that corresponded to the open dropped c. Although I know other scales and can write in other keys. I can't seem to be happy with them unless they sound a certain way. But I want to learn how to get out of this metal rut.

And to add to that I forgot that the corresponding tuning was c minor. Mainly.

Transcribe other kinds of music, and analyze it.

You should try to get into other music styles,
not forced tho but really to enjoy some different genres,
after that you'll naturally start writing using new ideas etc.
