How would you explain technical??,or what a technical player is?? Stupid question, but i need to get it out of the way...its been bothering me I would say "technical" means very will versed in all techniques - alternate picking, sweeping, tapping, harmonics, everything, and well versed in theory such as scales modes, 3 note per string etc - basically a guy who has all of the techniques at his fingertips. Some people might use this as a slur or qualification, separating teqnical excellence from the ability to actually make music, which is an entirely different skill. Its like the difference between a concert violinist whoplays brilliantly, but always reads music and interprets other peoples tunes, and a guy with a guitar that knows 5 chords, but can create the most intoxicating and moving songs out of thin air. A player that is often cited for technical brilliance at the expense of musicality is Yngwie Malmsteen (not looking for a fight here, but it is a criticism that is often levelled at him whether you agree or not, and I'm just trying to illustrate a point) - No-one would disagree that Yngwie has an unbelievable ability on the guitar, some people despite that don't actually like his music as they believe that the emphasis is far too much on technique at the expense oif musical expression. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile
