GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Pod Latency

Posted by: B33R Sep 16 2007, 09:47 PM

Hi

I just recently purchased a PODxt. I downloaded reaper and managed to get sound thru my computer speakers eventually but with terrible latency. The sound comes 1 or 2 secounds later. Is this because I have a bad soundcard, It's built in on the motherboard, or is it something else?

Maybe I should mention that I connect thru the usb port.

I also have plans on buying knew speakers and I have been loking at BEHRINGER TRUTH B2031A.
What do you think about them? Please don't suggest anything more expensive.

It may well be the onboard pc sound chip B33R. I doubt that the audio chip supports ASIO - and it's ASIO that will give you good low latency recording. TBH an on board sound chip isn't going to provide you with great audio so it might well be worth investing in a decent sound card when you can.

Before doing anything too drastic though make sure that you have selected ASIO in Reaper - if the option is available. Go to OPtions>audio>device and the drop down 'audio system' box. If it has ASIO select it. The for the 'driver drop down use the named ASIO driver (something like PodASIO - sorry not sure as I don't use a Pod).

If you haven't got ASIO at all you can try downloading ASIO4Free and use that, again setting the preference in Reaper as above. If that doesn't work then it's the sound chip I'm afraid and you may well then have to get a new PCI/PCI-X sound card.

Cheers,
Tony

for cheap speakers - Near doing quite a cheap active speajer (think it's the Ear05) for under 100UK sterling per pair.

Thanks for your answer I got it to work with asio4all. Now there is no latency when I chose asio podxt I couldnt get any sound thru my speakers but with asio4all it's working fine.

I do want a knew soundcard and I will probably buy one soon. But my first priority know is new speakers. I had a look at the speakers you mentioned havent listened to them but I thought that it wouldnt have enough bass with only 5" speaker. It's to expensive for me to buy a subwoofer.

Well I might add that it doesn't sound that good. I got much better sound with headphones connected to my pod but it's probably beacause I got a crappy buildt in soundcard as you say
