In this theory lesson we’ll be looking at a bit of an uncommon arpeggio, at least compared to the 7th, m7 and Maj7 arpeggios we’ve looked at in other lessons, the mMaj7 Arpeggio.

There are two ways that you can build this arpeggios, with the first using a minor triad and simply adding a Major 7th interval on top of that triad.

This means that if you have a Cm triad, C-Eb-G, and you add a Major 7th Interval on top of that triad, the note B, you have built a CmMaj7 Arpeggio, C-Eb-G-B.

Here is how that looks in both tab and notation for a Cm and CmMaj7 Arpeggio.






The second way that you can build a mMaj7 Arpeggio is to take the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th notes of the Melodic Minor Scale and build the Arpeggio that way.

So, if you have a C Melodic Minor Scale, C-D-Eb-F-G-A-B-C, and you pull out the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th notes, you now have the notes of a CmMaj7 Arpeggio, C-Eb-G-B.
