Hey guys smile.gif

Hope everyone is good and well,
Thought I'd share some news with you all.
I had planned on asking my girlfriend to marry me in November as it would have been the perfect time... Would have both been in Tokyo for her birthday, I could have taken her to a nice resturaunt with a good view of the city. Asked over a glass of wine etc

INSTEAD

I asked her 8 months early, last night, while we were about to go to sleep, no ring, no going down on one knee! smile.gif

She said yes though!

Great man smile.gif I wish you all the best. I remember how I asked my wife. We were in a pub and I just said it because I had too much drink. Then she said YES and I said "let's now tell the family". After we did that I ordered another bottle of wine and said "let's now go home and sleep" hahaha. The day after thinks were looking difficlut but there was no way back haha. I am very happy with her and I think that was a good move but they way I did it is not really recomended smile.gif

ahh great news mate, congratulations biggrin.gif when are you thinking of doing the big day?

I asked my wife christmas day of 2004, I bought her 5 presents which I got her to open in order, in each present I had piece of card with each word of "will you marry me", then when/if the answer was "yes" then she could open her 5th present which was a fluffy small bear thing with her engagement ring on one of its paws ... twas a very expensive christmas laugh.gif but was worth every penny smile.gif

Well in mate, been married three years now and still paying for the wedding!

Posted by: Ajmurrell Mar 16 2009, 06:14 PM

Oh dear! Sounds like a pricey one!

Fortunately my other half is more interested in keeping it little and close family/friends.

So won't be owing too much I hope, although we're not married yet - anything could happen!

Thanks though guys, genuinely very excited and happy.

Cheers,

Posted by: -Zion- Mar 17 2009, 10:40 AM

congratulations man.. that was awesome..

no worries about it not being that romantic.. you could always do it again if you feel like you want to do it "the proper way".. whatever "proper way" is for you.. smile.gif

I've been with my girlfriend for almost 10 years now.. we just had our first baby girl and it's excellent.. it has never been in my mind to ask her to marry me.. i believe it's because in my family we never really had a tradition of getting married.. nobody in my family gets married apparently..

however, last year, on february 24th, she decided to ask me (apparently february 24th is the only day of the year the girl can ask a man to marry her.. and only when there's a leap year) .. it was almost like what you did, although she had been soooo nervous all night she could barely function properly..

I said yes, but we aren't officially married yet.. first and main thing for her was to get a ring on my finger (and hers of course.. haha).. at some point we'll get married, but right now we are not in a rush..

Congrats again..

edit:
@Chris: Awesome way to propose

laugh.gif laugh.gif well, I got the idea from a friend of mine who is very creative at that kind of thing, he left his now wife little notes all over the house that led her to the engagement ring, with the ring was a note that had something about meeting him at a restaurant if it was a "yes", but there ya go, theres another idea for you in the future laugh.gif

"Maids day"? Hmm, not sure about that one. I wasn't there for a full year, though. Was just studying over there for a while and loved the time I spent there, so it's possible that's a holiday I missed.

Tokyo looks to just be crazy and energetic, and a lot of fun. A lot of culture shock should occur over there, at least from what I've heard, and that's a large part of what makes overseas experiences so memorable. I would actually be willing to try that fugu fish (Japanese puffer fish) that has the ominous reputation as the "world's most deadliest food". Supposedly, there isn't really any risk of dieing nowadays, not only due to the chef's expertise, but because, in the rare event that your chef screwed up cutting the fish and left the natural poison in the meat, all restaurants are now required by government law to have oxygen tanks on hand to supply you with air until the poison wears off. People die because they asphyxiate after losing all control of their nerves (including the ability to breathe), and the effect wears off after a little bit. According to what I've heard, though, the chance of death in that regard is now so miniscule that it could be considered nonexistent due to the modern standards in place. Mainly just for novelty's sake, now, to even consider the food "dangerous".

As with anything, will have its bumps in the road. Plenty of material for soft easy-listening stuff as well as some nice brutal metal, haha.
