Here's our topic for November! smile.gif

I would like to make things easier for you as much as possible regarding monthly (REC) assignment
so is there a some lesson of mine that you have been working or started working on recently?
If not I'll pick one for you, not a problem.

And here's first weekly assignment as well, AP lick with some nice rhythm going on, syncopation etc.
Tempo is 120 but that's just a rough one and not the must, do it as good as you can. smile.gif

Cool... There was one AP lick that concentrated on minor and major scales.. I am not sure if that is the same one Playaxeman is doing. I will check again. I was just trying your stamina excercise but way too fast.. biggrin.gif

Here are few...

Another one I was practising before MTP was

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...iming-exercise/

and ye.. perhaps this might be good as well (playaxeman playing now)

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...picking-thirds/ or maybe not so hard as for what I want to focus at this point.

another one.. smile.gif

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ernate-workout/

seems this ones a bit tricky with 2 strings.

I can do the assignment.. just a little bad finishing (not smooth I guess). By the way, I got my G-Force last night and was trying it out. Thought, it was a not working properly unit as buttons weren't clicking. So, I dived into the manual and saw they are working perfectly.. smile on my face then. smile.gif I hooked up for 2 hours or so fiddling around. I m loving it and still need to find tonnes of features in it. I will record a take today. smile.gif

Cheers!!

ok here you go.. there is this staccato (or something) problem.. may be my left hand isn't going fast as it should? or maybe its muting the string if I am playing too fast instead of letting it ring..

Is there any trick to get rid of it?

Nice one!

Regarding staccato, you think you played it too short?

Thanks Muris.. hope your tour is going well. saw pics on facebook. smile.gif

Yep.. I am not sure exactly. I noticed another instructor gave me the same feedback some months ago when I was doing a REC. As its faster, perhaps I am leaving the string too early.. if I don't I will mute the string or something.. so will need to explore the correct way. any tips?

Well, staccato worked pretty nicely for this last take imo
but staccato is not for everything, true.
So maybe you need to focus more on co-ordination between your hands.
Once again, it worked nicely for this take but if I notice it in future takes
I will point it out for sure, no worries.

Give me some time to post you next weekly assignment. smile.gif

Great.. smile.gif Yep, its been a problem I think. might not be noticeable for distorted sound though.. but I don't think people really play fast at clean tone (except for some spanish crazy music).. biggrin.gif Ye, I need to improve anyway.

Take your time Muris.. I have the REC to practice.. its definitely one hard lesson I chose. Although I am quite familiar with the picking, the fingers and the long time (stamina) to this lick with same speed isn't easy. I have been practicing this and hopefully I can get around 100bpm at least. will post the progress.

True, playing on clean sound is not the same as on distorted sound,
it takes better control and everything. smile.gif

Okay, I want to know some mechanics.

Here is my problem.

At slower speeds, every things seems okay and I tend to hold the pick a bit tight (a bit loose now).. so I can pick harder and so on.

At faster speeds, I tend to hold the pick tight so as to not slip the pick from my fingers. I am trying to control this but still cannot get it right. With faster licks, it gets even tighter I think so, I can now do 16th notes at 120bpm, not so comfortable still. Now, this 'tight' grip is somewhat becomes a problem above that speed because, it feels like you are restricted to move the hand beyond that, and right arm (tricep) aches. If I play holding the pick a bit loose, it gets easier but there is less coordination (more practice perhaps).

I think the proper way would be to play loose but my problem again is the transition. Suppose, I play slow and then I have to move to faster lick, its not smooth as I will have to hold the pick in 2 different ways, tighter at slow and loose at fast. (if you understand).

I am learning to control the muscle and senses to hopefully get it right with practice but is there some proper mechanics on controlling these actions? Looking at your videos, it looks like you are playing free hand without much effort on the picks (or even left hand) so what do you recommend? Without learning this, I guess I won't be able to play faster at higher bpms if I go the same way (even with practice).

I really need to control my muscles. Please advise.

Thanks Muris.

Ok.. I think the pick is okay.. Its the wrist. It seems to pivot at one point and moving the pick at faster speed is not possible. hmm.. wrong wrong? need to loosen that grip and practice without moving the whole arm of course.

Hey Muris,

Hope everything is going great with the tour.

I have been practicing the workout lesson and I must say, I can now play at 130bpm.. though its not yet perfect. I will keep on practicing until I hit all the notes. I was struggling at 120bpm and right arm kind of getting tighter everytime I practice. It hurted. But today, I could all do it at 130bpm.

I noticed that I am starting with upstroke (kind of easy on me on this lesson) and then the 2nd part (low string) started not at upstroke but downstroke. That was tricky but I got it okay now. I will keep on practicing this.

You now have 5 more days on Aussieland?

Thanks,
Chandra

Hi Muris,

You seem to have been pretty busy and still on tour. I wanted to know if the MTP will continue or we are on a break? If so, till when? It would be great to continue after that. I am still practicing the REC lesson and feeling a bit more comfortable now but still 'stamina' is kind of not working on me. Keep missing few notes due to long playing. My right hand kind of 'goes out of control' and not able to hold the pick properly near the end. smile.gif I have improved it than before but still it is happening.

I would like to continue MTPing with you and improve the speed and sync. Let me know if you will be touring and not be able to MTP for December or more months. smile.gif I will try recording the REC this weekend.

Thanks,
maharzan

Hi Maharzan,

If I may I like to speak for Muris just to inform you about this REC
I have send Muris a mail with same question you have here in this thread.

He told me he is very busy and unfortunately he has to stop this MTP for a while. He couldn't say for how long he has to stop. So we are on "pause" with this MTP for a while.

I have seen your rec and I think you did a great job there, just spend so extra time on the part that have some wrong notes and I think you are there. OFC I don't have such a a good eye Muris has on but that what I got to say about it.

Cheers

Thanks Playaxeman. smile.gif

I have applied to Emir's MTP and after suggestions from Emir and Chris, I am continuing with him for this MTP. Lets see if I can continue with Muris on the next. smile.gif I really need to improve my skills badly. smile.gif

That is a very good thing to rejoin

Unfortunately I didn't rejoin because I was awaiting a answer how long the break would take.
